Over a decade later, players are still finding secrets in The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim that they didn’t encounter during their first playthroughs. With a massive map and hundreds, if not thousands, of hours of gameplay, it’s easy to miss some details, especially some of the most hidden ones. There’s a dark secret in a useless Skyrim town, for example, which hints at the presence of Daedric activity in the area – which is unbeffiting of this town’s size and nature.
Now, a player has uncovered a hidden boss encounter in Skyrim, which is a part of the Dragonborn DLC. As seen in user Powerful_Pitch5871’s post on Reddit, the spectral frost giant boss Karstaag is an opponent they had never encountered before, mentioning that they had bested all the bosses in the game. “How did I not know about him?” the player asks in the post, which features an image of Karstaag.
Skyrim Has One Hidden Boss That Can Wreck You
Karstaag Is A Level 90 Encounter
Karstaag is a strong ghost frost giant who appears in Castle Karstaag Ruins. This boss is part of a secret mission called Summoning Karstaag, which requires you to obtain his skull from Glacial Cave and take it to his throne in Castle Karstaag Ruins. Once this boss appears, the battle will immediately commence, and there is no opportunity for interaction other than battling it.
The great detail about this encounter is that Karstaag is a level 90 creature, and as a frost giant, he is quite capable of defeating you in a single hit. While giants are well-known for their club attacks that can send an adventurer into the stratosphere, Karstaag has a stomp attack that can throw the player back in a similar way that the Dragonborn’s staple Unrelenting Force pushes back foes.
The Reddit user reports that it took them five attempts to defeat Karstaag, calling the encounter “the most OP fight in the game.” This is a shared opinion, as seen in many of the comments in their post. User AlphaDovah jokes, saying that “the first time I fought him, he hit me so hard he knocked me back through the loading door.” Because of his status as a high-level optional encounter, Karstaag is compared to the Ebony Warrior in Skyrim.
Skyrim Is Still Filled With Secrets
It’s Easy To Miss Some Details During Your Playthrough
Even though I’m convinced players have collectively found all of the well-hidden secrets and hidden bosses in Skyrim by now, the game is still full of mysteries for players individually. It’s very common to see players who have explored the game thoroughly report that they were surprised by an element of the game that they missed in a certain area or on their first playthrough.
Karstaag is a Morrowind Easter egg in Skyrim, and one of the many examples that show just how massive the game and its universe are. It’s delightful to replay the Bethesda RPG and continuously find new details that make it feel fresh. This is one of the reasons why Skyrim is considered one of the best games of all time.
