All of Captain America’s Kids, Explained Ahead of Avengers: Doomsday

The shining example of heroism in the Marvel Universe, Captain America didn’t get the powers of fatherly advice from the Super Soldier Serum; he got it from living a life full of ups and downs, and never losing his idealism in a better world for all. And while readers may not think of Steve Rogers as a father, the First Avenger actually has a few offspring across the multiverse, and even in the good old Earth-616.

These children certainly have some big buccaneer boots to fill, but Captain America is never one to hold his accomplishments over the heads of others. You can be sure that Cap is a loving father, no matter what reality he’s in (well, except for Hydra Cap, but the less said about him, the better). As the saying goes, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, so it isn’t surprising that Captain America’s kids are all heroes in their own right.

Sarah Rogers Grew Up On Battleworld

Making her debut in What If…? #114, Sarah Rogers comes from a reality where the heroes and villains never left The Beyonder’s Battleworld from the original Secret Wars. The story, set 25 years after Marvel’s classic event, focuses on the next generation of do-gooders and evil-doers.

Sarah Rogers isn’t just Captain America’s daughter; she is also the offspring of Rogue, who now goes by Carol, suggesting that the psyche of the then-Ms. Marvel, aka Carol Danvers, had taken over Rogue’s body at some point. Along with her father’s leadership skills (and blonde hair), Sarah inherited her mother’s superstrength and flying abilities.

Named after her grandmother, Sarah took on the alias Crusader and led the young heroes in a war against Malefactor, the son of Doctor Doom. Just like her dad, Sarah proved that she was worthy by lifting Mjolnir during the battle to stop Malefactor and his Doombots. She later reappeared in Scarlet Witch vol. 3 #9 when Wanda helped her and a clone of Magneto stop Malefactor for a second time.

James Rogers Was Raised By Tony Stark

Next Avengers, featuring, from left to right, Hawkeye, Torunn, James Rogers, Black Panther, and Pym.

Introduced in the 2018 animated movie Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow, James Rogers is the son of Captain America and Black Widow. James, along with the other children of Avengers members, is secreted away to a hidden refuge in the Arctic Circle by Iron Man while the rest of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes give their lives trying to stop Ultron and his robot army.

James, along with Henry Pym Jr. (son of Ant-Man and Wasp), Azari (son of Black Panther and Storm), and Torunn (daughter of Thor and Sif), is trained by Tony Stark to one day take down Ultron and free the world from his grasp. The plans change when Vision arrives with the revelation that Hawkeye and Mockingbird’s son, Francis Barton, is alive. At the same time, James accidentally activates Iron Man’s Iron Avengers, alerting Ultron to their location. In the fight, the children escape, but Iron Man is captured. At just 12 years old, the children of the Avengers set off to save their mentor and defeat the robot who killed their parents.

James would later appear in the comics along with other members of the Next Avengers. They first showed up in Avengers (Vol. 4) #1, then Generations: Iron Man & Ironheart, and last appeared in Amazing Spider-Man vol. 5 #74.

Ian Rogers Is Captain America’s Adopted Son

Ian Rogers, the adopted son of Captain America.

Making his debut in Captain America vol. 7 #1, Ian Rogers was born in Dimension Z, a reality created by Arnim Zola. Captain America freed the baby from a test tube and took him in as his own. During his adventures there, which went on for years, Captain America thought Ian was killed, but the boy actually survived and was raised by Sharon Carter, fighting to free Dimension Z from Zola’s control under the alias Nomad, a name his adoptive father once used.

Now grown up, Ian traveled to the 616 universe to warn Captain America and the Avengers of Zola’s plan to attack New York, and helped them stop the Nazi’s plans. Continuing to work as Nomad, Ian teamed up with Sam Wilson, who had just taken over as Captain America, to take the fight to Hydra.

Ian’s sister, Jet, was raised by Zola, and the two clashed on multiple occasions, but Ian never lost faith that his sister could change her ways and join the heroes. Just when it seemed like Jet was ready to join the heroes, an argument between her, Ian, and Sharon Carter ended any hope of a happy reunion, and Jet returned to Arnim Zola’s side. Ian was last seen in 2023’s Captain America Finale, leading an army of werewolves against the Inner Circle.

Ellie Rogers Wasn’t Long For This Multiverse

Ellie Rogers, daughter of Captain America, holding a knife and Cap's shield.

Ellie Rogers, the daughter of Steve Rogers and Sharon Carter on Earth-85826, was sadly not long for this world. First appeared in Hail Hydra #2 during 2015’s Secret Wars, where she teamed up with Ian Rogers, aka Nomad, to try and take down Arnim Zola once and for all.

Things didn’t go well for Ellie and Ian, and the decision was made to escape from the Hydra Empire domain on Battleworld and head to the 616 domain. As the siblings made a run for it, heading to the Infinite Elevator that would give them safe passage, Ellie was shot by Iron Baron. Ellie and Ian made it to the Infinite Elevator, which was quickly destroyed by Iron Baron, but not before they were able to escape the Hydra Empire. Tragically, Ellie’s injuries proved to be fatal, and she died shortly after.

Sharon Rogers Was Created For A Video Game

Sharon Rogers from Marvel Future Fight.

Sharon Rogers is the daughter of Captain America and Peggy Carter. In this reality, Steve Rogers was never frozen in ice, and instead celebrated the end of World War II by marrying Peggy and having a child. After her parents retired, Sharon took on the name Captain America and continued the fight against tyranny.

Equipped with the Star Light Armor, a holo-sword, and an energy-absorbing shield, all created by Tony Stark, Sharon was the first new character created for Marvel Future Fight, but has since appeared in Marvel Rivals as a profile banner and made her comics debut in Marvel Future Fight: An Eye on the Future.

Steve Jr. And Nicky Made One Brief Appearance

The offspring of Captain America with the least amount of information, Steve Roger Jr. and his little brother Nicky made their only appearance in What If…? vol. 1 #38, “What If Sharon Carter Had Not Died.” In the comic, set 50 years into the future, Sharon Carter never died, and she and Captain America had a family.

Ever the villain, a dying Red Skull abducts Captain America’s family as a final attack on the hero. Captain America saves his family, and saves Red Skull as well. Nicky and Steve Jr. haven’t been seen since.
