Like many people, I like finding a great TV series to binge on summer weekends. Last year, I watched Season 4 of Hulu’s funny and moving series The Bear, and couldn’t help but tune into the third and final season of The Summer I Turned Pretty on Prime Video. What can I say? Whether there’s a heat wave or the weather is rainier than you would like, it’s never a terrible idea to get lost in a fictional world of schemes, conflict, and high emotions. I’m recommending one show in particular that is a fun binge-watch, and there are only a few months before Season 2 premieres.
However, it’s not enough to simply watch this series once. You’ll want more time to digest the big plot twists, think about the characters’ choices, and reflect on the bigger themes. So, if you watched Season 1 of Netflix‘s steamy thriller The Hunting Wives in the summer of 2025, or caught up on Season 1 after it premiered, I’m happy to share that Season 2 is premiering soon. It’s a great idea to watch it all over again.
You Need to Rewatch ‘The Hunting Wives’ Before Season 2 Premieres
The Hunting Wives is about two women: Sophie O’Neil (Brittany Snow) and Margo Banks (Malin Akerman), who live in the small town of Maple Brook, Texas. Their lives become connected in terrifying (and entertaining) ways. From day one, you know there’s been a shocking murder, so you already want to know the killer’s identity. Along with that mystery, the series revolves around Sophie and Margo’s newfound friendship, which changes every day (and with every conversation they have). Storylines also focus on Margo’s husband Jed’s (Dermot Mulroney) political campaign and the lives of some of the other women in the town, especially the ones who are obsessed with Margo.
Sophie and Margo are so fascinating, and the steamy thriller is so easy to binge, that it’s no wonder the series is returning. According to Entertainment Weekly, Season 2 of The Hunting Wives will be released in September 2026. That’s plenty of time to rewatch Season 1’s eight episodes, or watch it for the first time, then go back and start all over again.
I read the novel written by May Cobb that was the basis for the Netflix thriller and can confidently say that the adaptation captures its compelling characters and dramatic premise. Cobb has written several books about disturbing events in suburbia, along with the challenges of friendship, love, and parenthood. This story stands out since it’s melodramatic but has some realistic elements, too. While you will be invested in Season 1 and want to find out who the main villain is and what’s going to happen to Sophie, rewatching it allows you to dig into the show’s more meaningful themes.
The Hunting Wives expands on the background of the character who is killed at the beginning of the story and also paints a picture of Sophie’s traumatic past. Although the show is different from Harlan Coben’s Netflix thrillers, it’s also a story about characters who should be happy but who, instead, are caught up in murder, disappearances, betrayals, and complex feelings. As you rewatch, you might appreciate the nuances of Sophie’s character arc more. There are times when you might think she’s doing the right thing, and others when you’ll wonder what she’s really thinking. But no matter what, revisiting these eight episodes will never be boring.
Could ‘The Hunting Wives’ Be Renewed for Season 3?
At the time of this writing, Netflix hasn’t renewed The Hunting Wives for a third season. However, given the buzz surrounding Season 1, and based on comments that Dermot Mulroney made, it might be possible.
In late May 2026, Mulroney appeared on the podcast The Tangle with Kyle Ridley and said:
“Season three is in prep. I think they got writers in the room, and they’re cooking up a third season already.”
Unlike TV shows like Reacher, which are based on series with 30 novels, The Hunting Wives is a single novel. I could still see this story going on for a while, though. The world created in the first season is rich and vivid enough, and Margo, Sophie, and the other characters are dynamic enough, that you can’t help but want to keep watching them. Could we see a fourth and fifth season, too, featuring even more over-the-top moments and manipulation? I’ll cross my fingers.
