Rob and Michele Reiner died “within minutes” after “multiple sharp force injuries”
More specifics surrounding exactly how Rob and Michele died are coming to light. TMZ obtained the couple’s death certificate, which came out on Tuesday. The Los Angeles Public Health Department’s documents say that they died “within minutes” on December 14 after incurring “multiple sharp force injuries.” The wounds were from a knife.
The bodies of the two were cremated, with the remains being returned to their son Jake. The LA County Medical Examiner’s Office had previously ruled that the death was a homicide.
Their son Nick could be facing life in prison or potentially the death penalty if convicted of murder. He hired prominent defense attorney Alan Jackson to defend him. Nick reportedly left a trail of blood behind when he was arrested at a Santa Monica hotel following his parents’ death.
Nick has been locked away in solitary confinement at Twin Towers Correctional Facility. It’s expected that he will plead not guilty by reason of insanity. The death penalty is still a possibility for the prosecution, saying they’ll take the family’s thoughts into consideration on that front.
The screenwriter had reportedly been behaving strangely the night of Conan’s party, and his parents had been allegedly at their wits’ end on what to do about him. Nick is due to be arraigned on January 7.
