‘Trump Is Driven by a Desire for Vengeance’: German Ambassador Shows His True Face, Bashes New US President in Internal Diplomatic Cable Widely Leaked to the Media | The Gateway Pundit

0

German Ambassador to the US, Andreas Michaelis: false friend.

The second historical Presidential mandate of Donald J. Trump is a planetary geopolitical storm to which no one can remain indifferent.

And while many allies have moved to be as close as Trump as possible, there’s also a fair deal of false friends being unmasked at the moment.

Take the German Ambassador to the US, Andreas Michaelis, for example.

Multiple German media outlets are now reporting that Michaelis recently wrote and circulated a diplomatic cable warning of the ‘threats that US democracy will face’ under incoming Trump and his team.

Deutsche Welle reported:

“In the five-page cable report sent to the German Foreign Ministry and the office of Chancellor Olaf Scholz last week, Michaelis stated that a second Trump term represents serious threats to the system of democratic checks and balances outlined in the US constitution.

Michaelis voiced serious concern about the future of US democracy, writing, ‘Fundamental democratic principles, along with checks and balances, will be undermined as far as possible, the legislature, law enforcement and media robbed of their independence and misused as political arms, and big tech will gain co-governing authority’.”

The classified cable was first circulated to news agency dpa, and now in circulation among German media outlets, such as the Bild newspaper.

Michaelis expects Trump to concentrate power in the hands of the president ‘at the expense of Congress and the states’.

“Michaelis went on to write that Trump’s policy ‘of maximum disruption, the breaking up of the established political order and bureaucratic structures as well as his plans for revenge ultimately mean a redefinition of the constitutional order’.

Michaelis, who will represent Germany at Trump’s inauguration on Monday, said he sees the incoming president as a man driven by a ‘desire for vengeance’, musing that he will ‘largely sap’ the US of its democratic principles.”

The German Foreign Ministry ‘does not comment on internal documents’, but insisted that the US is ‘one of [their] most important allies’. Yeah, right…

Donald Trump to sign ‘close to 100 executive orders’ – as he is set to become 47th US president | US News

0

Donald Trump will become the 47th president of the United States today – marking an astonishing return to the White House for the businessman and former reality TV star.

Today’s inauguration comes after a tumultuous four years out of office that saw assassination attempts and several serious legal cases against the 78-year-old.

Mr Trump will be sworn in at the US Capitol Rotunda buildings rather than outdoors due to the cold weather in Washington DC – the first time this has happened in 40 years.

A guide to everything that will happen during the inauguration

How Trump’s inauguration will unfold

The Capital One Arena in Washington will host a live viewing of the ceremony – due to start at 5pm UK time – as well as the Presidential Parade.

Joe Biden, Kamala Harris and past presidents will attend the swearing-in ceremony – but notably Barack Obama’s wife Michelle will be absent with no explanation offered.

It is no longer toxic to be associated with Trump

Something has changed. When Donald Trump won in 2016, America shocked itself.

Even those who chose him back then weren’t wholly convinced he’d do it.

The Washington establishment – Democrat and Republican – had not expected a President Trump.

And beyond that, in 2016, there was a reluctance to admit you were for Trump.

Not anymore. Beyond his base – the country-wide grassroots faithful once dismissed by Hillary Clinton as the “deplorables”, there has been a truly fascinating cultural shift in America. And it’s been quick.

Read more here.

Mr Trump has invited several world leaders, including China’s Xi Jinping, Argentina’s Javier Milei, and Italy’s Giorgia Meloni, to his inauguration – the first president-elect to do so.

Several high-profile “tech bros” will also be in attendance including Mr Trump’s close confidante Elon Musk, Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg, and TikTok chief executive Shou Zi Chew – fresh from the US ban which saw the app shut for several hours before the president-elect said he would stall the ban.

What can we expect from Trump’s first term?

Mr Trump also promised to sign close to 100 executive orders on his first day in office and said he would ensure that “the curtain closes on four long years of American decline”.

He added: “We’re going to give them the best first day, the biggest first week and the most extraordinary first 100 days of any presidency in American history.”

US officials have said they are not anticipating any major disruptions or protests on inauguration day.

But they are operating in a “heightened threat environment” due to the New Year’s terror attack in New Orleans.

The District of Columbia National Guard will deploy roughly 7,800 soldiers for security, which includes traffic control and patrolling underground stations.

Thousands of federal agents, police and other law enforcement officials will also be on hand.

At least 80 people killed in northeast Colombia as peace talks fail, official says : NPR

People displaced by violence in towns across the Catatumbo region, where rebels of the National Liberation Army, or ELN, have been clashing with former members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, arrive for shelter at a soccer stadium in Cúcuta, Colombia, on Sunday.

BOGOTÁ, Colombia — More than 80 people were killed in the country’s northeast over the weekend following the government’s failed attempts to hold peace talks with the National Liberation Army, a Colombian official said.

Twenty others were injured in the violence that has forced thousands to flee as Colombia’s army scrambled to evacuate people on Sunday, according to William Villamizar, governor of North Santander, where many of the killings took place.

Among the victims are community leader Carmelo Guerrero and seven people who sought to sign a peace deal, according to a report that a government ombudsman agency released late Saturday.

Officials said the attacks happened in several towns located in the Catatumbo region near the border with Venezuela, with at least three people who were part of the peace talks being kidnapped.

Thousands of people are fleeing the area, with some hiding in the nearby lush mountains or seeking help at government shelters.

“We were caught in the crossfire,” said Juan Gutiérrez, who fled with his family to a temporary shelter in Tibú after they were forced to leave behind their animals and belongings. “We had no time to grab our things. … I hope the government remembers us. … We are helpless here.”

Colombia’s army rescued dozens of people on Sunday, including a family and their pet dog, whose owner held a pack of cold water against the animal’s chest to keep it cool as they evacuated by helicopter.

Defense Minister Iván Velásquez traveled to the northeast town of Cúcuta on Sunday where he held several security meetings and urged armed groups to demobilize.

“The priority is to save lives and guarantee the security of communities,” he said. “We have deployed our troops throughout the entire region.”

Officials also prepared to send 10 tons of food and hygiene kits for approximately 5,000 people in the communities of Ocaña and Tibú, the majority of them having fled the violence.

“Catatumbo needs help,” Villamizar said in a public address on Saturday. “Boys, girls, young people, teenagers, entire families are showing up with nothing, riding trucks, dump trucks, motorcycles, whatever they can, on foot, to avoid being victims of this confrontation.”

The attack comes after Colombia suspended peace talks with the National Liberation Army, or ELN, on Friday, the second time it has done so in less than a year.

Colombia’s government has demanded that the ELN cease all attacks and allow authorities to enter the region and provide humanitarian aid.

“Displacement is killing us here in the region,” said José Trinidad, a municipal official for the town of Convención, located in the North Santander region. “We’re afraid the crisis will worsen.”

Trinidad called on insurgent groups to sit down and hammer out a new agreement so “us civilians don’t have to suffer the consequences that we’re suffering right now.”

The ELN has been clashing in Catatumbo with former members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, a guerrilla group that disbanded after signing a peace deal in 2016 with Colombia’s government. The two are fighting over control of a strategic border region that has coca leaf plantations.

In a statement Saturday, the ELN said it had warned former FARC members that if they “continued attacking the population … there was no other way out than armed confrontation.” The ELN has accused ex-FARC rebels of several killings in the area, including the Jan. 15 slaying of a couple and their 9-month-old baby.

Army commander Gen. Luis Emilio Cardozo Santamaría said Saturday that authorities were reinforcing a humanitarian corridor between Tibú and Cúcuta for the safe passage of those forced to flee their homes. He said special urban troops also were deployed to municipal capitals “where there are risks and a lot of fear.”

The ELN has tried to negotiate a peace deal with the administration of President Gustavo Petro five times, with talks failing after bouts of violence. ELN demands include that it be recognized as a political rebel organization, which critics have said is risky.

In the calm before new fire warnings, SoCal emergency responders dig in for a ground war

0

It was a typical sunny Sunday afternoon in Santa Monica, with scores of people enjoying the beach, having brunch and walking their dogs.

But just up Pacific Coast Highway in Pacific Palisades and eastern Malibu, authorities were preparing to wage a ground war on any conflagrations that might rise up as fast and excessively dry winds were expected to whip across the region in the coming days.

There are 5,677 fire and law enforcement personnel assigned to the blaze, including workers from Canada, Israel and South Africa, said Dan Collins, public information officer for the Palisades fire.

If the gusty winds lead to further flare-ups, as some fear, he said there is an additional “incident management team” with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection stationed in Beaumont, ready to assist.

Hundreds of emergency response vehicles were lined up along miles of a prime stretch of coastline in the Palisades and Malibu, alongside the blackened skeletons and crumbling chimneys of beachfront homes and businesses.

Dozens of tan tents that marked a makeshift National Guard encampment just above the sandy beach were abuzz with activity ahead of the forecasted fire weather.

In one particularly surreal scene, a Guard Humvee sat framed by tall palm trees outside the stately entrance to the Bel-Air Bay Club in Pacific Palisades.

Fire trucks from as far afield as San Diego and Contra Costa counties were parked bumper-to-bumper along one stretch.

Law enforcement cars cruised up and down PCH, lights flashing.

And dozens of Southern California Edison trucks were lined up on the winding coastal highway. Other utility trucks were fanned out from Topanga Canyon to Sunset Boulevard, digging ditches to reach buried lines, repairing damaged electrical equipment and otherwise attempting to fix as much damage as possible before wind speeds got too high.

“Strategic placement of firefighting equipment, aircraft and personnel have been prepositioned throughout areas of Southern California,” Cal Fire said in a statement Sunday.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service on Sunday issued the most extreme version of its red flag fire weather warning for much of Southern California, including burn areas in Malibu and Altadena. The “particularly dangerous situation” alert will take effect at noon Monday and continue until 10 a.m. Tuesday. Gusts of 50 to 70 mph are forecast for the coasts and valleys and 60 to 80 mph in the foothills, with isolated gusts of 100 mph.

The warning comes as firefighters raced to increase containment of the Palisades and Eaton fires. As of Sunday, the Palisades fire, which has burned more than 23,700 acres and killed at least 10 people, was 56% contained, according to Cal Fire. The Eaton fire, which has charred more than 14,000 acres and killed at least 17 people, was 81% contained.

Michelle Harrison and her husband lost their home in an unincorporated area of L.A. County just outside the city limits of Malibu when the Palisades fire erupted Jan. 7.

Now, Harrison said Sunday, she feared for those who could face even more threatening weather in Malibu this week.

“It’s just tragic,” she said. “I hope they have enough firefighters here, which I think they do now, to stop” any fires that might break out in the coming days.

Brits may qualify for free healthcare in more than 20 non-EU countries

0

The UK has agreements with over 20 non-EU nations to ensure British citizens and residents can receive free or discounted healthcare when abroad.

These reciprocal healthcare agreements allow Brits to be treated as if they were residents of the country they’re visiting.

The agreement offers discounted medical treatment where possible, and immediate necessary treatment could be provided free of charge until the patient is fit enough to return to the UK for further treatment.

However, it doesn’t cover repatriation costs or routine monitoring of pre-existing conditions.

It’s important to note that this doesn’t negate the need for health or travel advice warnings and valid travel insurance. Additionally, most of these countries require a document proving you’re entitled to healthcare under the agreement.

The necessary proof to establish this can differ from country to country, but it typically aims to confirm that the individual is a UK citizen or resident.

This could involve crucial documents such as a UK passport, driving licence, evidence of National Insurance or NHS enrolment, or utility bills.

For example, in the recently included North Macedonia, you can access emergency hospital treatment, certain emergency dental services, and other urgent medical care on the premise that local residents have access to the same services.

However, you’ll need to pay for prescription medications and will require a UK passport or proof of National Insurance enrolment to qualify.

Conversely, the process in Montenegro is slightly more complex, as you can present a valid UK-issued Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) or European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) to be eligible.

If you’re a UK national, your UK passport can also serve as proof to access healthcare, but if you’re not a UK national but reside in the UK, you’ll need to provide both your passport and a valid GHIC or EHIC.

To receive emergency care under the agreement in Montenegro, you or someone acting on your behalf must take these documents to a local Health Insurance Fund of Montenegro branch to obtain a hospital certificate.

This can be collected at any time before you are discharged from treatment and must be presented to the relevant facility to receive healthcare from state medical facilities free of charge.

Given the diverse requirements and allowances under reciprocal agreements, it’s wise to check with the Gov.uk and foreign travel advice before jetting off.

Plus, having valid travel insurance can significantly ease the stress if you fall ill or get injured while on holiday.

I’m Living Through the California Wildfires — Here’s How Every Business Can Prepare For a Natural Disaster

0

Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own.

As I write this, I’m surrounded by destruction and devastation. Here in Agoura Hills, California, we are on the cusp of the evacuation area, as fires have decimated thousands of homes and businesses in the Pacific Palisades and expanded westward through Malibu. Our power is out, and we are working from home off of a generator. My husband and business partner is currently conducting interviews in one corner of the house. I’m elsewhere, checking in with my team members and clients, many of whom have been personally affected by this, the worst fire disaster in the history of southern California.

Meanwhile, as I attend to the more mundane and routine business activities, such as reviewing last year’s annual reports and working with my marketing partners to create new outreach campaigns, I’m filled with immense gratitude for the business I’ve built and my ability to attend to it even amid such extraordinary circumstances. With a raging fire virtually at our doorstep, it’s all very touch and go, but it’s also comforting in a way, to set all the fear and anxiety aside and focus on what I’m best at: locking in and getting my work done.

Our resilience and perseverance in this difficult moment did not arrive by accident. By contrast, we’ve taken steps to ensure that our steadfastness in the face of catastrophe is part and parcel of our corporate culture.

Here are some key strategies for maintaining business continuity in a world where natural disasters are increasingly more commonplace.

Related: 3 Steps to Prepare Your Business for Wildfire Season

1. Understand the deeper needs of your employees in times of crisis

When disaster strikes, your employees may experience diverse physical impacts, and they will also process the event very differently — one person to the next — on a psychological and emotional level. As a boss and a leader, they will look to you to set the tone for persevering through disaster. It’s great that you’ve sent out an email blast with the latest updates and that your evacuation plan is posted in plain view at headquarters, but your job’s not done yet.

Though your first priority is safety, your leadership in this moment also entails looking out for your employees’ mental and spiritual well-being. Do this by holding one-on-one or group “check-in meetings” to discuss the effects of the disaster on your employees and those they care about. Make sure they know how to access available mental health resources. For example, some employers provide Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) that include lower cost or free counseling services. In addition to practical disaster and emergency response materials, be sure to share uplifting and inspirational content with your team that showcases the strength and resilience of your community in action as they respond to the disaster at hand.

What I’m trying to emphasize with my employees at this time is that, above all, nothing matters more than the safety and well-being of our loved ones. And, like every other moment and life event, these times of devastation will not endure forever. Be grateful for all you have. Take a deep breath. We’ll get through it.

2. Understand your paths to maximum resilience

The resilience of a business is determined by how quickly it can reestablish baseline operations after being impacted by a disaster. The key to maximizing resilience is to maintain a capacity in excess of what’s required for baseline operations. To put this in simple terms, consider a cloud data storage capacity diversified across several service providers. If your business backs up its files on a multitude of cloud drives, then the failure of one drive won’t hinder your normal operations.

Put even more simply: A business that maintains an emergency fund will prove more financially agile in the face of disaster than a business that lives paycheck to paycheck. Understand what your capacity for maintaining basic services looks like, then invest in resources that will allow you to operate above your baseline.

3. Plan. Plan. Plan.

This doesn’t have to be difficult, and there’s no need to reinvent the wheel. There are free tools available to help you evaluate your business’s risks and plan accordingly. For a comprehensive preparation guide, check out the “Open for Business-EZ toolkit” from the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety. Once you fully understand your risks and the continuity needs of your business, you’ll be better positioned to take further proactive steps such as:

  • Investigating appropriate insurance coverage options that suit your business’s unique risk profile and covers the value of assets likely to be damaged or lost in the types of disasters most likely to affect you where you live.
  • Cultivating awareness of grants and disaster relief loans for which your business may qualify.
  • Understanding the vulnerabilities of the buildings, vehicles or equipment used to operate your business. How might disasters common to your area affect these resources?
  • Setting up an emergency fund that can keep your business up and running through tough times.
  • Determining whether or not a gasoline-powered generator or another backup power supply is a good investment to make?

Related: 8 Ways Your Business Can Avoid Disaster — and Recover If It Happens

4. Keep your customers in the loop

It’s important to let your customers know when you’ve been affected by a natural disaster or any other event that may cause interruptions to service. Poor communication with customers, leading to unmet expectations, can make a disaster worse than it needs to be. Keep them apprised of how your business was affected and of your ongoing recovery efforts. If you can afford to, go the extra mile: offer special discounts and promotions for customers affected by the disaster. Doing so will keep good feedback coming your way and will burnish your reputation as a responsible corporate citizen.

As we continue to battle through this historic disaster in southern California, my firm, CorpNet, is doing all we can to support the community we serve and are home to. We’ve rallied our employees and clients to join us in making donations to the Red Cross, the California Wildfire Relief Fund and the LA County Fire Department. We’re sharing and promoting these giving opportunities, both as a practical means of responding to the disaster, but also as a means of encouraging our team members and customers to stay mentally healthy during this distressing time by giving of themselves, connecting with and supporting the community in this time of need.

Remember, whether you like it or not, there are those who look to you for leadership and inspiration. The way you run your business — and how you treat the people who help you run it — speaks volumes. Strive to build a business that will set the standard for compassion, preparedness and resilience during challenging times.

Trump speaks with Apple CEO Tim Cook, teases US investment

0

President-elect Trump on the eve of his inauguration says he spoke with Apple CEO Tim Cook and teased a potential move by the world’s most valuable company.

“I spoke with Tim Cook of Apple. He said they’re going to make a massive investment in the United States because of our big election win,” he said during his Make America Great Again Victory Rally on Sunday in Washington DC.

Apple did not immediately respond to FOX Business’ request for comment.

This wouldn’t be the first time the two have worked together. In 2019, during Trump’s first term, Cook was a member of the American Workforce Policy Advisory Board.

Since winning the electoral and popular vote on Nov. 5, Trump has secured two major investments in the US. First, SoftBank is promising $100 billion to create 100,000 jobs.

“This historic investment is a monumental demonstration of confidence in America’s future. And it will help ensure that artificial intelligence, emerging technologies and other industries of tomorrow are built, created and grown right here in the USA,” Trump announced in December.

President-elect Trump spoke with the CEO of Apple. AP

The second is a $20 billion commitment from DAMAC to build data centers.

“I’m thrilled to announce today that DAMAC will be investing at least $20 billion over a very short period of time into the United States, and they may go double or even somewhat more than double that amount of money. That’s a great thing,” Trump said.

The first phase of the data center project will be in Texas, Arizona, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan and Indiana, Trump said.

Since the election, many CEOs have broken bread with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida, including Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg, Google’s Sundar Pichai and Walmart’s Doug McMillion.

Trump also spoke of rising optimism in the economy, small business confidence at a 39-year-high and the stock market. Since his win, the S&P 500 has advanced nearly 4%, the Dow Jones Industrial 3% and the Nasdaq Composite 6%.

He also noted Bitcoin’s run. The largest crypto by market value is trading north of $100,000 as of Sunday evening.

As for Apple, its shares have advanced more than 20% during the past 12 months and recently flirted with a valuation of $4 trillion before pulling back from that milestone.

Trump triumphantly returns to Capitol for inauguration — the very place Democrats tried to destroy him

0

Just as fate brought Donald Trump improbably back to the presidency, there is cosmic irony in the last-minute change of venue for his swearing-in today.

The polar vortex that brought snow and arctic temperatures to Washington meant the official moment of Trump’s comeback triumph had to be moved into the Capitol Rotunda, the very scene of the Jan. 6, 2021, riot that Democrats and the media catastrophized to try to destroy him and his America First populist nationalist movement.

Who would have thought back then that Trump would be taking the oath of office in the same sacred place that Democrat Machiavelli Nancy Pelosi used and abused for her devious political games?

She and Joe Biden lied that cops were killed that day, that Trump supporters spread excrement on the walls, that the riot was an insurrection and a terrorist attack worse even than 9/11.

More than 1,500 Trump supporters caught up in the riot have been arrested and hundreds have been sentenced to years in jail for offenses that would have seen most New York thugs let off with a slap on the wrist. Former Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio was sentenced to 22 years in jail even though he wasn’t in the capital during the riot.

Symbolic

But democracy won. The will of the people has brought Trump back to the symbolic beating heart of our democracy to be sworn in for a second time.

The ceremony will be an exorcism of the malevolence that drove the attempts to destroy him with lawfare, censorship and assassins.

The arctic chill provides a cathartic cleansing before the economic sunshine promised in the “golden era” of Trump.

“We won!” was Trump’s opening line as he took to the stage Sunday night at Washington’s Capital One Arena packed to the rafters with rapturous MAGA fans, some of whom had waited for seven hours in the cold and rain to get in.

“What a good feeling. We like winning, don’t we? . . . And we’re not going to stop winning . . . We’re going to win like never before,” he said. “Tomorrow at noon, the curtain closes on four long years of American decline and we begin a brand new day of American strength and prosperity, dignity and pride.”

Trump added, “For the past nine years, you and I fought side by side against the most sinister and corrupt forces on earth. And in our magnificent victory on November 5th, you showed them once and for all that this nation does not belong to them. This nation belongs to you.”

He promised to work with “historic speed to fix every crisis,” signing 200 executive actions day one to close the border, unleash energy prosperity, eliminate DEI, withdraw from the Paris climate accord, dismantle the “bloated” bureaucratic state and reverse Biden’s destructive executive orders.

“By sunset tomorrow the invasion of our borders will have come to the halt and the illegal border trespassers one way or another will be on their way back home,” he said.

He also promised within days to release the records on the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, his brother Robert F. Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. There was added symbolism in that his inauguration fell on MLK Day, and his election win was driven in part by a historic break of black men away from the Democratic Party.

He also vowed to roll back “the destructive and divisive Diversity and Inclusion [and] return the country to the merit system . . . which is what made us great in the first place.”

‘Very happy’

Finally, in an emphatic reversal of the Insurrection Hoax, the blood libel against Trump supporters, he will pardon the J6 defendants who have been treated so poorly.

“You will be very happy with my decision on the Jan. 6th hostages,” he said. “Very happy. I think you’ll be very, very happy.”

There are a lot of very, very happy people in Washington this week as the Bidens slink out the door holding bitter grudges against those in the party he feel betrayed him.

(The tit-for-tat with Pelosi has wound up with Pelosi’s daughter Alexandra slamming former First Lady Jill Biden as “Lady McBiden” and advising her to “put on my big girl pants, play the long game and think about my husband’s legacy,” according to Politico. “There aren’t that many people left in America who have something nice to say about Joe Biden.”)

MAGA has taken over the nation’s capital.

Hardy Trump patriots braving the bone-chilling wind can be seen everywhere carrying American flags, proudly wearing MAGA hats, or driving pickup trucks festooned with Trump decals and slogans like “Cleaning up four years of crap.”

What a difference eight years makes. In 2017, Donald Trump came to a very different Washington, DC to be inaugurated as the 45th president, only to be ostracized and sabotaged, impeached and reviled.

Looking forward

But today, after four years of Biden, Trumpism is cool. NFL players do the Trump dance on the sidelines, Snoop Dogg is playing at the inauguration, TikTok is back, and more than two-thirds of young Americans aged 18 to 29 year feel “optimistic about the next four years with Donald Trump as president,” according to a new CBS poll.

Trump has won the grudging respect of even his most ardent critics, with New York Times columnist David Brooks calling him “the most consequential American politician since Ronald Reagan,” and comedian Dave Chappelle wishing him well on SNL.

You can almost hear the collective sigh of relief at the prospect of competence being restored to government.

America has yet again chosen a builder to rebuild the country and possibly reunite its people.

But for all his talk of unity, Trump is not the pushover he was last time.
