2 top growth stocks to consider for 2025!

0

Looking for London’s best growth stocks to buy? Here are two whose earnings are tipped to take off in the New Year.

Serabi Gold

Last year, a 26% rise in gold prices drove profits at Serabi Gold (LSE:SRB) through the roof. City analysts are expecting another sharp bottom-line rise in 2025 too — a 62% increase in earnings per share is currently tipped.

I’m not surprised at such bullishness give the high levels of economic and political uncertainty persisting in the New Year.

The World Gold Council (WGC) notes that “gold volatility has continued to reduce since the outcome of the election, but this may change in the run up to President Trump’s inauguration on 20 January, which may reignite investor interest“.

If the last couple of days are any guide, gold could be in for another landmark year (it posted 40 new record highs during the course of 2024).

Comments from the US President-elect on trade tariffs, Greenland, and Canada have pushed bullion prices to multi-week highs around $2,770 an ounce today.

Other factors that could drive gold even higher in 2025 include worsening conflict in Europe and the Middle East, enduring concerns over China’s economy, and interest rate cuts in response to dropping inflation and weak economic conditions.

It’s quite possible that Serabi could miss these growth forecasts. Production issues could strike the company’s Brazilian assets, undermining its output goals. The company is looking to ramp annual production up to 60,000 ounces by 2026.

Gold prices might also reverse if central banks fail to cut interest rates as rapidly as the market hopes, denting profits growth.

But on balance, I think the gold miner can look forward to another year of strong profits growth in 2025. Besides, I believe these dangers are more than reflected in Serabi’s rock-bottom valuation.

Today it trades on an ultra-low price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of 2.6 times for this year.

Hochschild Mining

A bright outlook for precious metals prices bodes well for Hochschild Mining (LSE:HOC) too.

City brokers think earnings here will rise 54% year on year in 2025. This also leaves it looking dirt cheap at current prices as well.

As well as having a P/E ratio of 5.7 times, the gold and silver producer trades on a price-to-earnings growth (PEG) ratio of 0.1. Any reading below one implies that a share is undervalued.

This FTSE 250 company could allow investors to effectively hedge their bets with precious metals this year.

While gold and silver may continue to rise on continued safe-haven investment, the latter could similarly rise on signs of improving economic momentum that boosts demand for riskier assets. In this scenario, demand for silver — a heavily used material in industrial applications — might rise strongly.

Like Serabi Gold, Hochschild’s production improvements — in this case, at its flagship Inmaculada project in Peru and Mara Rosa asset in Brazil — could also help it deliver further impressive earnings growth this year.

3 FTSE 100 shares that could make it rain dividends in 2025

0

Analysts expect £83.6bn in dividends from the FTSE 100 in 2025, according to AJ Bell, a 6.5% increase over last year. That translates into a forecast forward dividend yield of 3.9%.

Of course, this is an index-wide snapshot. Some individual stocks offer much more, including M&G (LSE: MNG) and Phoenix Group, which are both yielding over 10%!

Here, I’ll look at three FTSE 100 financial stocks that could make it rain dividends in my investing account.

10%+ yield

To start, I can’t ignore M&G. Shares of the wealth management and investment firm are currently offering an eye-popping 10.4% yield.

Better still, City analysts see the payout edging up another 3% this year, to 20.7p per share. Were this to come to fruition (bearing in mind that dividends aren’t assured), it places the forward yield at 10.8%.

In other words, investors could hope to receive nearly 21p back off every share they buy at today’s price of 190p. Just writing that makes me want to shut the laptop and reach for my phone to buy some shares!

Steady on though, there are risks to bear in mind. As an asset manager, M&G is exposed to the vagaries of financial markets, while competition is stiff. Also, the rise of passive investing continues to offer long-term challenges to the asset management industry, at least for active managers.

However, the bearish sentiment towards many FTSE 100 financial stocks looks overdone to me. M&G is due to publish last year’s earnings in March. If there isn’t anything to be alarmed about in the report, I may add some shares to my portfolio to target the otherworldly income.

8% yield

Next is Aviva (LSE: AV.). The company is already a UK insurance giant, yet is set to get even bigger after agreeing a deal to buy rival Direct Line for £3.7bn. If approved, this would significantly strengthen Aviva’s position in motor insurance.

Mind you, it would also add risk, as sizeable acquisitions like this don’t always work out. The share price has gone nowhere since the announcement, suggesting investors are lukewarm.

Looking ahead however, Aviva is forecast to hike its dividend by 7% to 38p per share this year. That translates into an attractive 8% dividend yield.

Meanwhile, the stock looks cheap, trading at a price-to-earnings multiple of 9.8. I’m happy to keep holding my Aviva shares for now

6.6%

Finally, there’s HSBC (LSE: HSBA). The Asia-focused bank has enjoyed a strong rally, with its shares now trading at a multi-year high of 790p. Yet the forecast yield for 2025 is still 6.6%, well above the FTSE 100 average.

Meanwhile, the company has been buying back a load of its shares. In October, it announced a new $3bn buyback, following on from the last one worth $3bn. Indeed, by the end of September, it had already forked out $18.4bn on dividends and buybacks for the year. So the bank is in a good place right now.

That said, HSBC makes the bulk of its profits in Asia. Were these markets, particularly China, to suffer during a new trade war under Donald Trump, that could cause volatility in earnings.

Yet, with the shares still trading cheaply and offering a 6.6% yield, I like the risk/reward setup here.

On a P/E ratio of 6, is the Centrica share price a bargain?

0

Looking at its price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of 6, Centrica (LSE: CNA) may seem cheap. On top of that, at the current Centrica share price, the British Gas owner yields 3.1% — not a massive dividend but still decent in my view.

Even better, at its interim results point, the FTSE 100 firm was sitting on a net cash pile of £3.2bn.

So, while it has a market capitalisation of £6.9bn, when discounting for that cash pile, the market is basically assigning it a value of under £4bn.

Could this be the sort of bargain I want to add to my portfolio?

Big brand, big cash generation potential

British Gas certainly has its problems.

Repeated examples of terrible customer service have battered the company’s reputation over the years. Meanwhile, the long-term demand picture for gas looks bleak. Gas usage in the UK has been in decline for many years and looks set to continue on that trajectory.

But while demand may be falling, it is still substantial. British Gas (alongside other brands Centrica owns) is well-known even if it is not widely loved. That gives Centrica pricing power.

Meanwhile, the business has an energy trading business that means its fortunes are not necessarily tied to ongoing demand for gas in the British Isles.

As the net cash position shows (Centrica was indebted just a few years back), this is a company that is able to generate sizeable amounts of cash. I think that could continue to be the case.

Hard to assess whether this is actually a bargain

Despite that, I have no plans to add Centrica shares to my portfolio even if the current price may look like a bargain.

A postponed plan to ban the sale of new gas boilers may extend the lifetime of domestic gas usage in the UK. But the long-term trend is clear: Centrica’s core business could shrivel away over time.

I also am concerned by the risks posed by changes in energy prices, especially for the trading division. While Centrica made a post-tax profit of £3.9bn last year, the prior 12 months had seen a £0.8bn loss. That sort of volatility in earnings can make me uncomfortable.

Given that sort of volatility, it is not clear to me whether the low P/E ratio represents the sort of bargain it may initially seem to.

Why I’m not investing

Stripping it back to basics, I remain unconvinced about the long-term potential for Centrica’s business.

It has strengths, including a customer base that remains large even if it was much smaller than it once was. But the demand outlook is bleak and in the long term I see real risks to Centrica’s current business model.

So I have no plans to put my money into buying Centrica shares for my portfolio.

The Shocking Reality Of That Eerie Photo Of Harry Hamlin And His Daughter Delilah Belle

0

pagesix

Recent media attention had focused on the actor and his eldest daughter, Delilah Belle Hamlin, when a photo from New York Fashion Week was widely criticized as creepy and inappropriate.

In addition, a person acquainted with the circumstances has revealed in an exclusive interview with Page Six that the Rinna family, including the matriarch Lisa Rinna, is outraged by all the disgusting criticism.

Our source reveals that the photographer of the shot in question, Manny Carabel, is terrified and so distressed about fans’ reactions and that Carabel was ready to whisper in her ear how proud he is of her.

Carabel is furious that a two-minute series of shot images were edited into appearing to be something they were not and were flipped entirely out of context. He shared this sentiment with us.

The photographer reveals that he was given the task of covering the PRISCAVera spring/summer 2023 catwalk show in Brooklyn during NYFW in September and that Rinna, 59, ended up walking the show.

Carabel claims that he observed Hamlin, 71 years old at the time, seated in a chair when he first came to the location, and he immediately requested if he could take some photographs of the actor. The photog informed us that Hamlin was gracious enough to respond yes.

Carabel claims that he then requested that he may take some pictures of Harry with his daughter Delilah, who is 24 years old, shortly after her arrival. Carabel tells us that Delilah instantly proceeded to strike a stance, if you will because she has a history in modeling. Meanwhile, Harry naively positioned next to her in [a position] he felt would compliment her the best, as any father would.

There was not the slightest hint that [Harry’s] actions or behavior were in any way flirty, improper, or anything else that took away from him being a loving father.

Warm up to this delicious Marry Me sausage orzo soup! It’s hearty, super flavorful, and packed with seasoned sausage, tender orzo pasta, and plenty of bold, savory seasonings.

Overhead shot of marry me sausage orzo soup.

Reasons You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Flavor: It’s called Marry Me for a reason! The flavors in the soup will knock your socks off. It’s so good!
  • Comfort Food: Is there anything more satisfying than sitting down to a warm bowl of soup on a chilly winter day? This soup delivers that plus incredible flavor.
  • Easy to Make: This soup only takes 30 minutes, and it all cooks in one pot! You could pair it with my 1 hour rolls and a wedge salad for an incredible date night in!
Overhead shot of labeled ingredients. Overhead shot of labeled ingredients.

How To Make Marry Me Sausage Orzo Soup

You won’t believe this incredibly flavorful soup only takes 30 minutes to prepare. You basically cook the sausage and onion, add everything together, let the orzo cook, and let the flavors all meld.

  1. Cook: In a large pot, cook the sausage and onions over medium-high heat. Cook until the sausage is no longer pink and the onions are translucent. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  2. Add: Stir in the flour and tomato paste.
  3. Simmer: Pour in the chicken broth, Italian seasoning, paprika, sun-dried tomatoes, and dry orzo pasta. Cook for 10-13 minutes or until the orzo is plump.
  4. Combine: Add the heavy cream, spinach, and parmesan cheese. Stir to combine and heat until the spinach wilts and the cheese melts—season with salt and pepper to taste if needed. Garnish with red pepper flakes and serve with fresh parmesan cheese if you desire!

Tips and Variations

  • Sausage: Use pork sausage, Italian sausage, or turkey sausage. They are all delicious options for this marry me sausage orzo soup!
  • Salt: Be sure to wait until the end to season the soup with salt and pepper. This is because some brands of sausage can be salty enough, and you won’t need it.
  • Chicken Broth: The orzo pasta will soak up the chicken broth, so you may need to add more. If you have leftover soup, add more broth before rewarming.

Storing Leftover Marry Me Sausage Orzo Soup

This marry-me sausage orzo soup makes fantastic leftovers! Your family will LOVE this recipe, so make sure to make a big batch.

  • Fridge: Once cooled, place leftovers in an airtight container. Keep in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
  • Freezer: Transfer the cooked and cooled soup to freezer-safe containers or resealable freezer bags. Leave some space at the top to account for expansion as the soup freezes. Then, label it with the date. The soup will last about 2-3 months.
  • To Reheat: Reheat any leftovers in the microwave or over the stovetop until warm. Add a splash of chicken broth before rewarming because the orzo will soak up some of the liquid as it’s stored. When you’re ready to use the frozen soup, simply thaw it in the refrigerator overnight. Once thawed, reheat it on the stovetop or in the microwave until heated throughout.

Resurrection’ Casts Original Stars, ‘New Blood’ Favorite in Sequel Series

0

Dexter: Original Sin is now in full swing over on Paramount+ with Showtime, and though the prequel series will conclude on Valentine’s Day, there’s still more of everyone’s beloved vigilante killer to come by way of Dexter: Resurrection later this year. In addition to Michael C. Hall returning as the titular character, we now have some more casting news to report which is sure to make fans of both the flagship series and Dexter: New Blood happy.

According to Deadline, David Zayas, Jack Alcott, and James Remar have all signed on to appear in Resurrection, which will pick up where New Blood left off and Original Sin began – with Dexter being rushed to the hospital to be brought back to life after suffering a seemingly fatal gunshot wound at the hands of his son, Harrison. Zayas portrayed Detective Angel Batista in the original series, while Remar portrayed Dexter’s father, Harry Morgan. Alcott took on the role of his son in New Blood, and was last seen driving away after shooting his father.

‘Dexter: New Blood Creator’ Addresses Backlash to Killing Dexter: “The Internet Hated It”

That’s one way of putting it.

Thus far, the Dexter renaissance has proven successful, as Original Sin has drawn big numbers for Paramount+ and Showtime. The premiere episode on Dec. 13 was streamed by 2.1 million global cross-platform viewers, making it Showtime’s biggest streaming premiere in history. The prequel series stars Patrick Gibson as a young Morgan, and traces his early years as he begins to hone his craft while interning at Miami Metro.

What Does This Mean for ‘Dexter: Resurrection?’

With Zayas, Alcott, and Remar returning for Dexter: Resurrection, we can glean a little insight into the direction creator Clyde Phillips might be taking the sequel, even though plot details remain a heavily guarded secret right now. One would assume that with Dexter’s secret revealed to the world, he’ll be on the run from Detective Batista, trying to do all he can to stay hidden. Harry will no doubt try to play the voice of reason as his subconscious, a role that was portrayed by Jennifer Carpenter in New Blood, who returned as Dexter’s deceased sister, Debra.

Meanwhile, with Alcott returning to play Harrison, it’s most likely that a large chunk of the plot of Dexter: Resurrection will focus on the turmoil he’s experiencing as the son of a serial killer. At this point, he believes his father to be dead, so it will be interesting to see his reaction to him still being alive, and if he’ll try and track him down to perhaps learn a little more about his own homicidal tendencies.

Either way, Resurrection is thus far shaping up to be a great homage to the original series, while at the same time moving the story forward for what will hopefully be many more years of Dexter to come. It’s already been confirmed that the Trinity Killer spinoff is still in active development, and with the success of Original Sin, we’ll most likely get a second season there, too. As we await the premiere of the sequel in June, be sure to check out the amazing prequel series streaming now on Paramount+ with Showtime.

Avowed Premium Upgrade Cost & Early Access Explained

0

Given its day-one Game Pass status, Avowed has a semi-unique pre-order method, but how exactly does this upgrade work? Avowed is gearing up to be one of the most highly anticipated RPGs of 2025, putting players into another adventure in the world of Pillars of Eternity. However, where Pillars of Eternity was an isometric CRPG, Avowed is going the route of an action RPG. This comes with first-person or third-person combat with melee weapons, magic, and early-age firearms.

Avowed comes from Obsidian Entertainment, an established studio known for works like Fallout: New Vegas, The Outer Worlds, and 2022 Game of the Year Pentiment. Obsidian usually goes for a more lighthearted tone in its games but mixes in the right number of serious and consequential decisions to pull audiences in. Based on its recent successes, the likelihood of Avowed being an enjoyable game is high, and much of the hype around the title supports this. Along with Avowed, the studio has also been giving its fans more looks at The Outer Worlds 2, one of the most anticipated FPS games of 2025.

What Is Avowed’s Premium Upgrade Edition

A Unique Type Of Pre-Order

Avowed‘s Premium Upgrade Edition is an extra purchase that gives players access to extra rewards. This option is for two types of users, the first being those that originally only ordered the Standard Edition, but now want to upgrade to the Premium. The second is for Game Pass users who want the extra rewards but are not planning on buying the game in its entirety.

This is a huge boon for Game Pass users, as it removes any exclusion they would see. While Game Pass is an amazing tool for letter players to try/experience games on a budget, it does have its cons in situations like this where pre-order rewards aren’t perfectly compatible with a subscription service. Thus, putting a small price tag that benefits both the players and the studio solves this issue with few if any complaints.

Premium Upgrade Edition Price & What’s Included

Good Rewards For Cheap

The Avowed Premium Upgrade Edition goes for $25 and includes three main sets of rewards, the largest of which is five days of early access to the highly anticipated game. The other rewards are two sets of bonus skins for companions and access to the digital artbook and soundtrack.

The five days of early access are the key thing here, as that is the real kicker behind pre-orders for premium editions of new games. The price tag is also a fair price for Game Pass users that are willing to spend. This is essentially $5 a day to play the game early while still having it for the rest of their subscription. However, it is a slight downgrade for those who purchased the base edition for $70, as it will raise their total to $95, $5 more than the price of the regular Premium Edition.

Avowed Premium Upgrade Early Access Explained

How To Jump In Early

A skeleton with various splashes of color over its bones holding a sword in Avowed's key art.

The Avowed early access will begin on February 13 and run like normal early access. This means that players will have access to the full game and can play it at their leisure. Whether this means blazing through the game before it even releases to the public, or methodically checking every corner of the map for completion runs. There has been no indication that early access will have any restrictions, so it is purely for those most eager to dive into this fantastical world.

Overall, Avowed, with all its confirmed fan-favorite features, is set to be one of the first big releases of 2025, though it is not without fair competition. However, given the dedication of RPG and Obsidian fans alike, the support is likely to be there, barring any huge issues. The only issues that could cause a failure would be if the game releases in an unpolished state or is generally uninteresting. Those looking to jump into Avowed and test this title as soon as possible should grab the Premium Upgrade Edition for its five days of early access.

Shaquille O’Neal-Dwight Howard beef still going strong in 2025

O’Neal took notice of Howard’s words and responded on X.

“@DwightHoward the fact u think I care about u is funny, but I won’t ever bring your name up again sensitive big man, a jokester that can’t take a joke,” O’Neal wrote. “Won’t ever say your name again ever again. Have a great day and now u have been deleted. Have a great day.”

Howard shot back an angry reply: “I know you care. Cuz yo insecure ass been hating and talking s— for 20 years. You to big to be this insecure. I hope you don’t bring my name up again. 52 years old tweeting me. And still hating. Now all this time you was joking. … It’s 2025 grow the hell up. and move on.”

On Tuesday morning, however, Howard seemed to have cooled off and offered an olive branch of sorts in a new X post.

“Btw I don’t want people get entertained by two black man going back and forth over petty stuff,” Howard wrote. “I don’t want to bicker I just want to settle this like the two successful HOF black men we are! You the most dominant center of all time ! Come on to the podcast and let’s hash this out.”

It is unclear whether Howard wants O’Neal to join him as guests on “The Gauds Show” — something host Ray Daniels was pushing for during this week’s episode — or on his own podcast, “Above The Rim with DH 12.”

Either way, O’Neal wasn’t having it.

“Nice move I see what you doing, your legacy is your new podcast that’s how u will be remembered and u need views,” O’Neal wrote. “Dam I taught you well, great job hall of fame podcaster. But still don’t care. You need the sit down, u need my validation, I don’t need yours, how will you be remembered, think about that podcast boy. I have a empire to run Now leave me son I been talking twenty years but u wanna squabble at 50 Well I decline I’m to old Again nice move Love u son.”

2024-25 NBA MVP futures, betting odds and favorites

0

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder is the new odds-on favorite to win the NBA MVP Award, which would be his first, as he leads the West-leading Thunder to a 15-game win streak. Alexander knocks three-time MVP Nikola Jokic out of the top spot for the first time all season.

Tonight on ESPN, the Thunder face Donovan Mitchell (250-1) and the Eastern Conference-leading Cleveland Cavaliers — themselves on a 10-game winning streak — marking only the third time in NBA history that a team on a 15-game win streak faces the team with the best record, according to ESPN Research. You can catch all of the action at 7 p.m. ET.

On Friday, the Thunder will take on the New York Knicks, who boast a pair of MVP candidates of their own in Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns, both at 250-1.

Anthony Edwards, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Jayson Tatum are among the top five odds leaders, behind Alexander and Jokic.

This page will be updated throughout the season.
