Gervonta Davis wants immediate rematch with Lamont Roach, but …

World Boxing Association (WBA) Lightweight champion Gervonta Davis and WBA super-featherweight title champion Lamont Roach fought to a majority draw last night (Sat., March 1, 2025) from inside Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York (watch highlights).

Instantly after the boxing match ended and the scorecards were read, both boxers agreed that they need to run it back in an immediate rematch.

During the post-fight press conference (watch here), “Tank” doubled down and demanded an immediate rematch. However, he got cryptic and said it would not happen this year and would fight someone else.

“I’m not sure, bro,” Davis told reporters when asked how likely a rematch will happen in 2025. “Definitely not sure, but hopefully we can get it before – nah, it probably won’t be this year. It’s definitely the fight I want next, but it’s not going to be next.”

When asked who he’d box next, Davis simply responded, “You might see in a minute. You definitely might see it in a minute.”

With Davis being as mysterious as he was, it sure seems like he had already signed up to fight someone before his match with Roach happened yesterday.

So, who is “Tank” boxing next?

Early in the post-fight press conference, Davis revealed the person he will fight next was in his locker room at some point (and it wasn’t Shakur Stevenson).

However, a former opponent was spotted in his locker room: Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz. The two fought back in 2021 (Davis won a unanimous decision), and to that point, Cruz was the only fighter not to get knocked out by “Tank.”

Cruz is coming off an early ‘Fight of the Year’ contender against Angel Fierro (watch highlights).

The other clear option for Davis is Vasiliy Lomachenko

In early 2024, “Tank” was linked for a fight with Lomachenko in what would have been a substantial Lightweight title unification super fight. The fight eventually fell apart after Lomachenko decided to take the rest of the year off.
