Ultimate Fighting Championship Featherweight Hyder Amil kept his undefeated record intact at UFC Vegas 103 last night (Sat., Mar. 1, 2025) when he defeated William Gomis via split decision from inside the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Amil, unfortunately, suffered a lot of loss while training for this big fight. He lost his father, his best friend, and his dog coming into his fight.
During his post-fight interview with the media, Amil was brought to tears because yesterday was his best friend’s birthday.
“Today was one of my best friend’s birthday. I don’t know if you ever had someone that you could call anytime and talk to, and I’m sorry. F—k,” Amil told MMAMania.com. “I just held everything back for after this fight, and it just sucks. And I just, I want to dedicate this win to him.”
On top of all of his loss, “Hurricane” suffered a torn bicep in training camp and then shredded his knee two weeks out.
“Everyone asked if I was going to pull out. I was like, No,” Amil said. “I was sparing everyone one-handed for two months of the camp, and in the last month, [my bicep] healed. Then I tore my MCL, like, two weeks ago, and I was like, you know, it’s just another thing. But you know what, a champion fights through anything, and with all those things, the injuries, and everything, you just gotta show that’s the kind of heart I have. Man, I can fight. I’ve been through so much in my life.”
Since arriving in the UFC, Amil has been must-watch television with his nonstop pressure and lack of fear of putting himself into danger. However, for some dumb reason, the promotion has only put him inside its Apex facility.
The 34-year-old is begging UFC to put him in front of a crowd.
“My fights are way too exciting for the Apex,” Amil said. “I can’t imagine if my last fight was in an arena, people would be going bonkers—even this fight. Please put me in an arena. I feel like I fight better with people. It’s just always more exciting when you win in front of people. And you know what? UFC is about having spectacular fights. Watch all my fights. Every time I fight, the roof is going off. Just expect that if I fight in an arena.”
