Summer of ’94
SATURDAY: With just a few weeks until the U.S. begins co-hosting this year’s highly anticipated World Cup tournament, Fox stokes soccer fever with a nostalgic look back at a turning point in our nation’s relationship with the sport. The documentary recaptures the excitement 32 years ago when the U.S. first hosted the event, forming a U.S. Men’s National Team without a pro league to draw from. The performance of these underdogs, coached by Bora Milutinović, kindled a passion for soccer that led to the formation of Major League Soccer two years later. The film includes archival footage of the 1994 tournament, captured by the players and their coach on camcorders.
