The upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto VI is about as highly anticipated as it’s possible for a game to be, which in one sense is a very nice position for developer Rockstar to be in. On the other side of that equation, that anticipation comes with a ton of pressure to deliver, and the game really does need to be pretty astounding, just to meet minimum expectations.
With the release currently scheduled for November, there are still a lot of questions up in the air about what it’s actually going to be like, with very few privy to the gameplay contained within. Now, one of the most significant people involved in the process has shared some insight, and it’s interesting to hear how things are progressing.
As first reported by Rockstar Intel, the CEO of Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two Interactive has confirmed that he has had “everything demoed” for him, and given how positive he has been about the game in recent weeks, the fact that he has seen it being played is very encouraging.
That news came as part of a wider interview with Game File, where Zelnick reiterated that he is “not a video game player,” and pointed people towards the existing trailer as a genuine example of what’s to come.
These latest quotes are similar to those Zelnick shared during an interview with Business Insider, in which he confirmed, “I see the whole thing. I’m just not the one holding the controller.” His lack of prowess with gameplay obviously isn’t a huge concern on the business side of things, but it does perhaps mean that he is less able to recognize flaws for those who actually take control.
That said, as the head of a company as big as Take-Two Interactive, you’d hope that he would notice if the game was absolutely terrible at this late juncture. He has also been doing the rounds recently at conferences and in other interviews to reaffirm just how big GTA is going to be as well, with the assumption being that he wouldn’t be doing that quite as publicly if it was all going wrong with the game.
In the meantime, we just have to sit tight and hope that things start moving soon, which they should if the developer is sticking to the November release date. Most are assuming that pre-orders and a third trailer should drop in relatively short order, so fingers crossed they do and we can all breathe a sigh of relief that there’s a clear runway to the release of GTA VI.
