Iberia has launched another Avios redemption sale, this time taking 40% off economy awards between Madrid and three US East Coast cities. The booking window is short, closing on June 29, 2026, but travel runs through September 30, 2026. One-way economy fares start at just 11,700 Avios plus taxes.
The discounted routes are Madrid (MAD) to and from New York (JFK), Boston (BOS), and Washington (IAD), all flown non-stop by Iberia. Avios remain one of the easiest premium-cabin currencies for Canadians to earn outside the Aeroplan ecosystem, so an economy price this sharp is worth a look if a summer trip to Spain is on your radar.
Award bookings made through iberia.com or the Iberia Club service centre qualify, with the 40% discount applying to the Avios price only. Taxes and fees aren’t reduced.
- From 11,700 Avios one way in economy, down from around 19,500 Avios, with a few dates dropping as low as 9,600 Avios
- Roughly $92 (USD) in taxes one way from the US side, and a little more from Madrid
- Booking window: June 18–29, 2026. Travel window: June 18 to September 30, 2026
- Valid on Iberia, Iberia Express, and Iberia Regional Air Nostrum, but not Vueling, LEVEL, or Iberia Air Shuttle flights
One thing to watch is the fare type. The cheapest price books into Basic economy, which doesn’t include a checked bag, so budget for a bag fee or buy up to a standard fare if you aren’t travelling light.
The offer can’t be combined with any other Avios redemption promotion running in the same period. Anything on the earning side, like a transfer bonus or a credit card welcome offer, is still fair game.
What This Deal Is Worth
These are US departures, so this isn’t a non-stop deal from Toronto or Vancouver. The play is to position into New York, Boston, or Washington, then connect onward to Madrid on the discounted award.
It’s also a useful fallback. Iberia’s last sale discounted the non-stop Toronto–Madrid route, but that booking window has already closed. If you missed it, routing through the East Coast is the next-best way to put Avios toward a summer trip to Spain.
On the numbers, the discount is real. Iberia’s standard off-peak economy award on these routes runs around 19,500 Avios one way, so 40% off saves close to 7,800 Avios each way, or about 15,600 Avios round-trip. At 11,700 Avios one way, or roughly 23,400 Avios round-trip plus taxes, you’re crossing the Atlantic for a fraction of the cash fare.

The redemption is also unusually clean. Iberia doesn’t add the fuel surcharges that British Airways often piles onto Avios bookings, so your only out-of-pocket cost is government taxes and airport fees, roughly $92 (USD) one way from the US. The sale doesn’t discount those, but they’re modest next to the surcharges other Avios redemptions can carry. The East Coast to Madrid run is also a relatively short transatlantic crossing at around seven hours, usually flown as an overnight where you can sleep through much of it, which makes economy far easier to justify than a longer haul.
How to Earn Avios
If you don’t already have an Iberia Club or British Airways Club balance to draw from, Canadians have a few solid earning paths.
The most direct option is the RBC® British Airways Visa Infinite†, the only Canadian credit card that earns Avios directly. Its welcome bonus of 60,000 Avios is enough for two round-trip economy seats on this sale, with Avios to spare.
RBC Credit Cards for Earning Avios
Beyond that card, the other Canadian earning paths are:
Once Avios sit in any one program (Iberia Club, British Airways Club, Aer Lingus AerClub, Finnair Plus, or Qatar Airways Privilege Club), they can be moved between accounts with the Avios Combine feature. So Amex Membership Rewards or Avion points moved into British Airways Club can be combined over to Iberia Club to use on this sale.
There’s a time-sensitive earning angle too. RBC’s 30% transfer bonus to the British Airways Club ends today, June 19, which sharpens the price in Avion terms. The minimum transfer is 10,000 Avion points, and the bonus turns that into 13,000 Avios, enough for a one-way on this sale with a little to spare. A round-trip lines up almost exactly, with 18,000 Avion points converting to the 23,400 Avios you’d need.
Mind the timing, though. RBC quotes up to four weeks for Avion to reach British Airways, even if transfers often post sooner, so points moved today may not arrive before the June 29 booking deadline. This works best if you already hold Avios, or if you’re happy to lock in the cheaper Avios now and use them on the next Iberia sale.
Conclusion
If you already have an Avios stash and a summer trip to Spain in mind, this is an easy yes. Economy to Europe for 11,700 Avios one way, with low fees and no fuel surcharges, is about as cheap as transatlantic award travel gets, as long as you can position into the East Coast.
Sitting on RBC Avion or Amex Membership Rewards points without a plan? Converting a chunk over is a reasonable move, especially with the 30% Avion bonus live through today. Just budget time for the transfer to British Airways, which RBC says can take up to four weeks, and remember the sale closes to new bookings on June 29.
If you don’t have Avios at all, an eleven-day booking window is tight to earn your way in from scratch. Better to set yourself up now so you’re ready for the next sale, since Iberia runs these regularly.
