Look at Gracie Abrams‘ life: Shortly after the release of her third studio album, the pop star has earned her first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with Daughter From Hell, a feat to which she reacted with astonishment in an Instagram Story.
Sharing Billboard‘s post about the milestone, Abrams wrote Sunday (July 26), “Whoa thank you so much.”
“this is nuts and entirely your doing!!! Thank you,” she continued, adding a red heart emoji.
The Grammy nominee’s achievement comes the week after Future had the top spot on the chart with The Real Me. She first appeared on the Billboard 200 in 2023 with debut LP Good Riddance, which peaked at No. 52. The following year, she shot up to No. 2 with The Secret of Us, her breakout sophomore effort that featured top 10 hit “That’s So True” on the deluxe.
Daughter From Hell opened with 124,000 equivalent album units in the United States in its first week, according to Luminate. Abrams is now gearing up to embark on an arena tour in support of the 16-track project, kicking off this December with dates across North America and Europe.
“We’re baaaaaack,” she wrote on Instagram in May when she first announced the trek. “I HAVE MISSED YOU AND I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!”
Led by Billboard Hot 100 top 40 hit “Hit the Wall,” Daughter From Hell finds Abrams teaming up once again with longtime collaborator Aaron Dessner. She also reunited with childhood best friend and The Secret of Us cowriter Audrey Hobert for “Minibar” as well as boyfriend Paul Mescal for “Imaginary Friend.”
One track, “Death Wish,” has sparked a lot of speculation online, especially in regards to who it may be about. But in a recent interview with Billboard, Dessner clarified that it’s “definitely not” about Taylor Swift.
“It was written at a time when [Gracie] was writing about a friend’s ex, being in a bad relationship,” he said a few days after Daughter From Hell dropped. “So it was kind of about that person, I think. I wouldn’t even actually know who that person was.”
