Prince William reportedly wanted privacy for his family, but palace life may still call later. The Prince of Wales and Kate Middleton settled into Forest Lodge in Windsor with their three children. The move was framed as a quieter base away from palace walls. New reports claimed that the plan could change when William becomes King. The issue was not just comfort. It was also about duty, access, and expectations around the monarchy.
Reports say Prince William wants to keep family life away from the spotlight
As per a Hello Magazine report, Prince William and Kate signed a lease in 2025. The report described Forest Lodge as an eight-bedroom Windsor home. It said the lease was a “short-term 20-year lease.” The move from Adelaide Cottage gave the family more space. HELLO!’s Danielle Stacey said the children were “settled at Lambrook School nearby.” She also said Forest Lodge avoided “the walls of a palace.”
Meanwhile, King Charles reportedly changed expectations around Buckingham Palace. Hello Magazine noted that Charles planned to remain at Clarence House. A palace spokesperson said the King had “huge affection for Buckingham Palace.” The same statement called it “a buzzing hive of royal activity.” However, the home itself was being redefined. Royal Editor Emily Nash wrote that Charles was “redefining its purpose.” Clarence House offered more privacy while staying close to official royal work.
Still, a Daily Mail report said William could face practical pressure. A former courtier called Buckingham Palace “the royal engine-room.” The source said up to “800 people” worked there daily. They added that William could not expect aides to drive to Forest Lodge each time. The source said he would need “a handy London home very close to the Palace.” For Prince William, privacy remained the family preference. However, the report suggested kingship could require a home near the royal office.
