Lola Young Turns Mental Health Journey Into Message of Hope

Trigger Warning: This article discusses mental health and suicide prevention.

Lola Young is turning a personal message about hope into support for people facing difficult moments. The Grammy winner has joined a mental health charity for a project that encourages people to keep going, even when life feels especially heavy.

The singer channels a message of hope into CALM’s mental health initiative

Young has teamed up with CALM, or Campaign Against Living Miserably, for its Lifelines collection. The collaboration features a T-shirt inspired by Young’s song “Flicker Of Light.” Its design draws from the track’s hopeful message about finding a way forward through difficult periods.

“There is always a reason to keep going,” she said in CALM’s announcement. She also emphasized that simply making it through a hard day can count as progress. According to Young, people do not always recognize those smaller victories when they struggle.

Meanwhile, proceeds from the shirt will support CALM’s suicide prevention work. The charity provides a helpline and other mental health resources for people who need support.

The Lifelines collection previously featured artists including Fontaines D.C., Blossoms, and Inhaler. Each collaboration uses music to encourage conversations around emotional well-being. NME also detailed Young’s involvement.

CALM created the initiative to show how lyrics can become personal lifelines during difficult periods. Therefore, artists choose words from their own music that carry a message of survival, connection, or hope.

For Young, that purpose closely matches the emotional honesty that runs through much of her work. Her songs often explore complicated feelings without trying to make them sound simple or polished.

The project also comes during a major year for the singer. Young won the 2026 Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance with “Messy.” However, she has also shown a willingness to protect her well-being when necessary. Last year, Young stepped away from performances during a challenging period.

Now, she is channeling those experiences into something that may help others feel less alone.

For Young, the CALM partnership carries a simple but powerful idea. Hard days can pass, recovery can take time, and sometimes continuing forward is an achievement in itself.
