What To Know
- Jessica Tarlov surprised Bill Maher on HBO’s Real Time by firmly declaring that Democrats are “less crazy” than Republicans.
- Tarlov, known for her liberal stance on Fox News’ The Five, emphasizes in her book the importance of maintaining strong Democratic views even in predominantly conservative spaces.
- She recently clashed with Donald Trump after reporting his low approval ratings.
Fox News’ Jessica Tarlov proved that she stands behind the title of her new book, I Disagree, when she appeared on HBO’s Real Time on Friday and disagreed with host Bill Maher about whether Democrats or Republicans are “less crazy.”
The issue came up in Friday’s episode as Maher’s panelists discussed the midterms and President Donald Trump’s standing with voters.
“I think all these recent elections have been about the Democrats are crazy on social issues; people don’t like that. Trump’s crazy, but the economy’s better — but he doesn’t have the economy anymore,” Maher said during that discussion.
“And we’re less crazy,” Tarlov interjected.
“Who’s less crazy?” Maher asked.
“Democrats,” Tarlov said. “You haven’t noticed?”
“What?! Have you seen the Democratic—” a shocked Maher replied, adding that he thought Tarlov was being sarcastic. And once he realized she was being sincere, he asked, “You think we’re less crazy?”
“Maybe not inside, but we’re at least when we go out and give a speech talking about the economy and corruption…” Tarlov said.
Tarlov is a regular presence on Fox News’ The Five, where her liberal views clash with the conservative views of her co-hosts and many of the cable news network’s viewers. And she delves into that outsider status in I Disagree: Winning Arguments Without Losing Friends, a book Random House released this week.
“I’m trying to show that a Democratic voice like mine can exist there, without an apology,” she writes in the book as she reflects on her Fox News post, per the Los Angeles Times. “And that a person with strong liberal beliefs can bring that same perspective to a host of outlets and places.”
Tarlov recently ran afoul of Trump when she reported on his low approval ratings this April. In a Truth Social post, Trump lashed out by calling Tarlov “one of the Least Attractive and Talented People on all of Television” and said she made up poll numbers.
“Guess I’ll take this opportunity to mention that my numbers are far from fake — Trump really is that unpopular,” Tarlov responded on X.
