Brooke Elliott Has a Bittersweet Goodbye for ‘Sweet Magnolias’ Fans


Brooke Elliot, who starred in Netflix’s “Sweet Magnolias,” shared a moving Instagram post after the show was cancelled. The series, centered on a group of women navigating their lives, ended abruptly after its fifth season.

Elliott wrote a touching tribute to the show and its fans on Instagram. “To everyone who loved us, we love you just as much in return,” Elliott wrote on Monday, Oct. 5. “I will miss this cast and crew dearly. Here’s to the beautiful Sweet Magnolias… one last time… Pour It Out.”

The “Drop Dead Diva” alum also shared a photo of herself with a margarita. This was a weekly tradition where Dana Sue, Helen, and Maddie “poured it out”. The special nights included shared gossip with cocktails .

Elliott starred as Dana Sue Sullivan on the show alongside Heather Headley and Joanna Garcia Swisher. Based on Sherryl Woods’s novels, the series explored the romance, career, and family of three women in Serenity, S.C.

Justin Bruening, who played Maddie’s love interest Cal Maddox, also shared a farewell message. “To our cast and crew: I will miss each and every one of you! It was because of you that every day I went to work didn’t feel like work, since it was an absolute joy. We really had something special that set the bar extremely high for the future and set us apart. I’m grateful and honored to know you,” the actor wrote.

He also mentioned that saying goodbye to the cast, crew, and fans at home is “the hardest part of the whole thing.” “Sweet Magnolias” debuted in 2020 and soon gathered a dedicated fanbase who supported the trio of women throughout the series. 

Entertainment Weekly quoted a source who said Netflix is “proud” of what the cast and crew accomplished. The series garnered 100 million views and landed on the Global Weekly Top 10 list 14 times across more than 60 countries.
