How do I become one of these ‘ISA millionaires’?

Another year, another few thousand people become ISA millionaires! On 14 October, the latest figures were released revealing that in the last year nearly 3,000 British investors crossed the £1m mark in their trusty old ISA accounts.

A 4% drawdown rate on that sum (which is generally considered safe over long periods) offers a tax-free income of £40,000 a year. Wowzer! The burning question, I suppose, is…. how do I get that for me?

Should you buy Nvidia shares today?

Before you decide, please take a moment to review this report first. Despite ongoing uncertainties from US tariffs to global conflicts, Mark Rogers and his team believe many UK shares still trade at substantial discounts, offering savvy investors plenty of potential opportunities to learn about.

That’s why this could be an ideal time to secure this valuable research – Mark’s analysts have scoured the markets to reveal 5 of his favourite long-term ‘Buys’. Please, don’t make any big decisions before seeing them.

The plan

To start with, it should be mentioned that these millionaires are using Stocks and Shares ISAs not Cash ISAs. The return rate on savings accounts is simply not enough, when combined with the deposit limits on ISAs. Therefore, the plan requires investing in the stock market.

Another important point is that the 4% drawdown rate mentioned above is a bit of a misnomer. Average stock market returns have historically been much higher – in the 9%-10% range for UK and US stocks – but the withdrawal rate needs a safety buffer.

The following table shows a few scenarios. Do note that there’s a big assumption here that future stock market returns are similar to historical ones – that isn’t guaranteed by any means. Returns from investing can be lower than inflation. They can even be lower than simply holding the money in cash!

Yearly deposit Return rate Years needed
£20,000 10% 18
£15,000 10% 21
£10,000 10% 24
£5,000 10% 31

As we can see, those who can afford the £20k to max out a Stocks and Shares ISA every year might hit the million-pound mark in less than two decades. Smaller deposits, of course, require more time.

Is there any other way to speed up this process? There might be one…

Higher-end

One of the reasons so many ISA investors have hit the £1m figure in the last 12 months is – in all likelihood – due to artificial intelligence (AI). We can’t peek into these ISA millionaires’ accounts, but I think it’s safe to say the rise in stocks such as chipmaker Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) has made a hefty contribution.

Possibly a big contribution too for some – the top ISA millionaires have an average balance of £12m!

Can Nvidia be a good buy for someone starting today? I think so. It’s undoubtedly got a big role to play in the spread of a new and exciting technology in AI.

It should be said the monster gains this stock has bagged in recent years are unlikely to be repeated. Nvidia’s a $5trn company, now the largest in the world. There simply isn’t that much more room to grow.

Also, Jensen Huang’s firm is benefiting from a sort of arms race among AI hyperscalers. The money being spent on its advanced chips – still regarded as the best on the market for AI – might dry up in the event of the long-rumoured AI stock market crash.

It remains to be seen just how important AI will be in economic terms. But for the chances that it lives up to some of its grandest promises? I think Nvidia could be a good buy to consider. It might even help a few more people on their way to being ISA millionaires…

Should you invest £5,000 in Nvidia right now?
