Major airline to bring back flights from holiday spot to London for first time in 12 years | Travel News | Travel

A major airline is set to resume flights from a popular holiday destination after more than a decade. Cyprus Airways will relaunch daily direct flights between London and Larnaca on April 23, 2027. The carrier last operated regular services to London until 2015 and also flew to Stansted, although it was then a state-owned company under different ownership.

One of Cyprus‘s leading tourist hubs, Larnaca remains a firm favourite among British travellers, thanks to its sandy coastline, reliable sunshine and well-developed visitor facilities. The UK’s strong connection with Cyprus is reflected in tourism figures, with British visitors continuing to make up the island’s largest overseas market.

In 2025, travellers from the UK accounted for nearly a third of all arrivals, representing 31.8 per cent of total tourist numbers. British passport holders can travel to Cyprus for stays of up to 90 days without obtaining a visa.

The Mediterranean island is famed for its warm climate, enjoying more than 300 days of sunshine annually, as well as its stunning coastline and crystal-clear waters. Among its standout attractions is Golden Beach on the Karpaz Peninsula, which secured a place in Europe’s list of the world’s best beaches, ranking 30th out of 50 locations.

Stretching for around 2.4 miles, the unspoilt beach is celebrated for its sweeping sands, rolling dunes and natural scenery. It is also an important nesting site for sea turtles, adding to its appeal as one of the island’s most remarkable coastal spots.

Passengers who want to hop back on this route with Cyprus Airways can choose a number of options including the Economy Flex fare, which comes with a 10kg cabin bag and a personal item, along with a 23kg checked suitcase and complimentary seat selection.

Cyprus Airways’ Business Class offers a range of additional perks, including airport lounge access, priority check-in and enhanced onboard service.

Business Class tickets also include a 15kg cabin baggage allowance, two checked bags weighing up to 32kg each, free seat selection, fast-track airport services, complimentary meals and priority boarding.

Thanos Pascalis, chief executive of Cyprus Airways, said: “By adding London Stansted to our network from April 2027, we are providing our customers with greater choice and flexibility while further strengthening our presence in one of Cyprus’ most significant international markets.

“We look forward to welcoming passengers on board and offering them the convenience, reliability and authentic Cypriot hospitality that define Cyprus Airways.”
