Mckenna Grace stepped out in New York City with a look that brought a playful dose of vintage fashion to “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” press tour. The actress was photographed out and about with her dog, Scooby Doo, while putting her own spin on a runway design from more than a decade ago. McKenna Grace wore a white Betsey Johnson dress from the designer’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection. The look featured a fitted strapless bodice which then dramatically expanded through the skirt, where black bow details created a striking contrast against the white fabric.
However, the standout feature was undoubtedly the unusual high-low construction. Rather than having just one daring opening, the skirt featured two incredibly high slits that revealed Grace’s legs as she walked. The gathered fabric created voluminous panels on both sides. The front half reached her knee while longer sections extended nearly to the ground.
Grace styled the look with sheer black thigh-high stockings and towering black Aldo Carah platform sandals. She also carried Aldo’s black Silvaax bag, as noted by Celeb Style Radar on Instagram. It had a bright red polka-dot scarf tied around it for another pop of color.
The actress finished the outfit with narrow black Otra Raci sunglasses and delicate jewelry. Her long blonde hair was worn down in loose curls, with tiny red accents scattered throughout her strands.
Rather than reaching for a brand-new runway piece, the actress and stylist Molly Dickson dug into Betsey Johnson’s archives. They thus ended up reviving a Spring 2011 design roughly 15 years after it originally appeared on the runway. Between its dramatic proportions and double slits, Grace’s latest press-tour outfit made a strong case for bringing archival fashion back into the spotlight.
