Netflix will add an all-new series to the historical list of science fiction-meets-western epics when it unleashes its new show to streaming next month. An explosive new trailer for the series has now been unleashed, smashing together tropes from both beloved genres into a tale set in a steampunk West overrun by outlaws, machines, and supernatural forces, and following a father as he’s forced to become judge, jury, and executioner to protect his family.
Based on the new footage, and on what’s been released previously, Netflix’s new genre show has everything needed to be another major hit for the streamer as it merges not one, but two of the biggest icons, taking the world of Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan and Ridley Scott’s seminal cyberpunk masterpiece Blade Runner before launching into a saga of science, magic, and cowboy hats.
Thus, we have Bass X Machina, a new adult animated series starring Oscar, Emmy, and Tony-nominated Brian Tyree Henry, best known for the Spider-Verse franchise, Eternals, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Bullet Train, and Transformers One, as the titular lead character, Bass, the series is a stylistic retelling of the real-life first Black Deputy U.S. Marshal west of the Mississippi River, Bass Reeves.
Bass X Machina drapes a steampunk aesthetic over a real figure from the Old West, combining them into a glorious high-concept sci-fi western action thriller mash-up that retells and reimagines a real-life story of gunfighter Bass Reeves, who himself was the subject of a live-action series that was executive produced by Taylor Sheridan and released back in 2023. The new footage shows off even more of the anime-infused action that will be on display when Reeves’ tortured lawmaker is dragged into a world inhabited with unstoppable machines, mysterious magic-wielders, and all manner of otherworldly mayhem.
From the studio behind Netflix’s previous animated hit Devil May Cry, and featuring a star-studded cast that includes Janelle Monae (Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery), Tati Gabrielle (The Last of Us), Cree Summer (Voltron: Legendary Defender), Chaske Spencer (The Twilight Saga), Currie Graham (Reacher, Assault on Precinct 13), and Starletta DuPois (One Battle After Another), alongside Brian Tyree Henry, Bass X Machina is officially set to lock and load on Netflix on Nov. 3, 2026. And thanks to the talent tasked with bringing this enticing genre medley to screens, Bass X Machina is all but guaranteed to be another big hit for the popular streamer.
