Russell Brand has made a new claim about his family during his ongoing sexual assault trial. He claims a hospital barred him from visiting his infant son during medical treatment after sexual assault allegations against him became public. The comedian is standing trial at Southwark Crown Court over seven charges involving six women. He denies all charges.
Russell Brand claims he was barred from visiting his sick baby son in hospital
According to Metro, Brand said hospital staff barred him from being with his son while the child underwent open-heart surgery. He linked the alleged restriction to media reports about sexual misconduct allegations against him in 2023.
“The reason given by Great Ormond Street Hospital when my son was receiving open heart surgery and subsequent treatment was due to the material published,” Brand told the court.
Brand said hospital staff informed him and his wife, Laura Gallacher, that he could not be present during their son’s treatment. He also claimed that hospital staff did not clearly explain the legal basis for the restriction.
Brand also reflected on how the accusations had affected his life. “My entire life has been consumed by these events, these allegations, these accusations,” he told the court.
Several complainants have testified during the ongoing trial. The women have accused Brand of several forms of sexual misconduct, including rape and sexual assault. During the trial, a witness described an alleged victim’s account of Brand appearing “possessed” during an incident. Another woman testified that Brand made her feel “like a piece of meat.” One commented on his “lizard-like” tongue.
The judge recently directed the jury to acquit Brand of one indecent assault charge, citing insufficient evidence to support that count. However, Brand still faces a revised charge arising from the same alleged incident. The jury will instead consider a charge of attempted indecent assault.
Brand made the claim while giving evidence in his defense. He faces three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault and one count of attempted indecent assault. The charges involve six women and relate to alleged incidents between 1999 and 2009.
