Joanna Goddard Brooklyn

I’ve had a weirdly stressful day (anyone else?), so let’s talk about something fun! This post is for all you word-lovers…

First, do you know any of the collective nouns for animals? They’re very charming:

* a kaleidoscope of butterflies
* a murder of crows
* a memory of elephants
* a flamboyance of flamingos
* a pride of lions
* a mischief of mice
* a parliament of owls
* a prickle of porcupines
* a crash of rhinos
* a bed of sloths
* a dazzle of zebras

And in my old Hinge profile, I included this shark one, haha.

teenagers Brooklyn

The other day, when a gazillion teenagers walked down the street…

shoes on the floor

…and into our house, they seemed like a “tornado” of teenagers — all swirly and energetic and leaving a mess behind. Or maybe a “blur”? A “mood”?

toddlers Brooklyn

A couple days later, I hung out with a “rainbow’ of toddlers…

Alison Piepmeyer Stella Blackmon

And “a hug” of friends. (I know it’s cheesy but it feels right!)

Goddards England

It’s fun for families, too — in England, we’re definitely a chinwag of Goddards.

What about you? What collective nouns do you have in your life? I’d love to hear.

P.S. Tell me three things, and I’ll recommend a book you’ll love; and I actually like the word “moist.”
