Elizabeth Vargas delivered a powerful speech at the Los Angeles event, which aimed at honoring the first responders and promoting mental wellness. The ex-news anchor was at the Monica Woolley Foundation Award Ceremony, where she used the microphone to go over such topics as suicide prevention and making mental health issues less stigmatized through more open discussions. The event drew legislators, non-profits, and mental health advocates, who were all engaged in promoting and holding a conversation about such issues.

The evening program was largely about promoting mental health and underlining the importance of local heroes. It was a very prominent point made by Vargas during the whole of her address: it is very important to make the asking for help the act that is done frequently and accepted. She spoke to the urgency of suicide prevention for the youth, and the discussion concluded with messages of compassion and a common sense of humanity.

‘What one is carrying within is always a secret to us,’ Vargas shared in her online recap of the event, ‘and the giving of voice is a cure.’ The sharing of the truth as a method of healing was part of the ceremony in which the ‘Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ cast member Peggy Tanous also recounted her experience. Vargas, in turn, commended the bravery of Tanous and called her a ‘lovely soul’ graciously.

The Monica Woolley Foundation held the event and its tagline is ‘When Feeling Blue Think Yellow.’ The mission of this foundation, which is very much like that of Vargas, is to provide crisis support and eliminate the stigma around mental health issues. The foundation sent a formal note of thanks to Vargas for her attendance, saying that her speech was the one that ‘really made the room.’

The foundation’s official account made an original but interesting gesture and invited Vargas to their annual gala scheduled for December 2025 by stating, ‘It would be an honor to have your beautiful spirit with us once more.’ Vargas has interpreted the invite as a positive one, saying that she would assist in promoting the fundraiser and repeating the call for resources that are easy to get.

A user associated with the foundation also received Vargas’ attention with the simple remark, ‘I work with them too ❤️.’ Vargas replied warmly, acknowledging the collective impact and the event’s gradual positive influence with the words, ‘I loved the way the event went. Little by little :)’ This exchange has made it clear that the foundation’s activities help in the creation of a community.

The event organizers, in return, made possibly the most unreserved acknowledgment when they thanked Vargas and, in a very complimentary manner, referred to her as a ‘wonderful woman’. Vargas’ reply was very intimate. She identified her vulnerabilities: ‘If I wasn’t as strong as I am today, I wouldn’t be here dealing with the PTSD and the past trauma that I continue to encounter.’ She directly linked this to the theme of the event saying that sharing personal stories can save lives by encouraging others to seek help.

The reaction of the fans and followers was anything but neutral; it was very positive. One person, for instance, called Vargas and Tanous ‘fantastic duo,’ while another, with a little addition from a family member, named support with, ‘Raine says, “Go Elizabeth!!”’ All these reactions together painted a lively picture of a vibrant community supporting the cause.

Vargas’s presence at this ceremony if she had been aware of it being a measured way of her long-time public discourse on addiction and mental health. Her turn to speak on behalf of an organization that is recognizing the first responders—who are the most afflicted by PTSD and suicide—moves her to address both areas of pressing need. The night was a blend of festivities and an open, life-saving dialogue which in turn Vargas’s advocacy work continues to promote. Her involvement shows a dedication that is no less than converting her personal experience into public support for others. In other news, Elizabeth Vargas recently discussed her personal health journey, and she also made headlines when she called out Huggies branding in a viral rant. Additionally, she has been open about defending GLP1 users and revealing her own hair loss struggle.
