Frozen star Kristen Bell is joining the cast of Sonic the Hedgehog 4. Bell will voice Amy Rose, the character teased in the post-credit scene of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The highly anticipated sequel is set for release on Mar. 19, 2027. Jeff Fowler, who helmed the previous three Sonic movies, will return as director.
Bell’s casting for Sonic the Hedgehog 4 continues the franchise tradition of courting big names to voice the iconic character. Ben Schwartz has voiced Sonic the Hedgehog since the first film back in 2020. Idris Elba joined the franchise as Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, with Keanu Reeves voicing Shadow the Hedgehog in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Voice actress Colleen O’Shaughnessey reprised her role as Tails from the games for the feature films.
What Kristen Bell’s Amy Rose Reveals About ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 4’
Amy Rose is a pink hedgehog who is known for wielding a giant hammer and for harboring a crush on Sonic. She is cheerful, optimistic, and one of the most popular characters in Sonic’s supporting cast. She made her first appearance in 1993’s Sonic the Hedgehog CD, which also marked the first appearance of Metal Sonic.
Both Amy Rose and Metal Sonic were teased in the post-credit scene of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, implying that the fourth film will draw heavily from Sonic the Hedgehog CD. The game features time travel, which would be a major development for the film franchise. The story also reveals Metal Sonic as the creation of Doctor Ivo Robotnik (Eggman) from the future. This opens the door for Jim Carrey to return for Sonic the Hedgehog 4. While the actor originally intended to retire from acting following Sonic the Hedgehog 2, he returned for the third film, where he played both Ivo Robotnik and his own grandfather, Gerald.
Kristen Bell is a star who needs little to no introduction. She has been a staple of television for over 20 years, in lead roles on popular series such as Veronica Mars, The Good Place, and, most recently, Nobody Wants This, for which she received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. She is also the voice of Princess Anna in the Frozen film franchise, with Frozen 3 opening theaters in 2027. Other notable film credits include Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Bad Moms, and is reportedly set to star as Mrs. Claus in Violent Night 2, which is written by Sonic the Hedgehog 3 screenwriters Patrick Casey and Josh Miller.
