‘Beef’ Season 2 Trailer Stars Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Charles Melton & Cailee Spainey

Netflix has rightfully earned a reputation in recent years for delivering compelling and thought-provoking stories, as evidenced by its four-part Adolescence dominating virtually every awards show it was part of. This isn’t a recent phenomenon, though, as the streamer similarly delivered Baby Reindeer, which also cleaned up at a variety of awards ceremonies. Given that those two shows are a bit fresher in our memories, there has been speculation about those boundary-pushing projects earning follow-up seasons. Another one of the streamer’s most-acclaimed series that took top honors at awards shows, though, is already back with a new season.

Released in 2023, the first season of Beef saw Steven Yeun and Ali Wong cross paths in a road rage incident that we’ve seen or heard of countless times in our daily lives. However, this encounter is merely the catalyst for both characters to descend into shocking spirals, with the Lee Sung Jin-created series delivering compelling drama and darkly comedic encounters. Now, Season 2 of Beef has gotten a full trailer, which highlights even more of the outlandish antics the series will chronicle, with Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Charles Melton, and Cailee Spaeny starring in this sophomore outing.

Much like in Season 1, a conflict between two characters ignites a chain reaction of events that tears relationships apart. What’s different in Season 2, though, is that the conflict starts between a married couple, played by Isaac and Mulligan, and that encounter is witnessed by the figures played by Melton and Spaeny.

The debut season of Beef was significant for a variety of factors. At the Emmy Awards in the Limited or Anthology Series realm, the show won Outstanding Series, Outstanding Lead Actor, Outstanding Lead Actress, Outstanding Directing, and Outstanding Writing. Yeun was largely known for his work in the genre series The Walking Dead prior to that, with his win signaling his dramatic talents, while Wong was mostly known for her stand-up work, as her win similarly confirmed her dramatic abilities. Wong became the first Asian-American to win Outstanding Actress and between her and Yeun, it was the first time two Asian-Americans won the top acting awards the same year. The duo also won their respective Golden Globe Awards, with the series winning Best Limited or Anthology Series or Television Film.

The upcoming season also brings with it a strong pedigree, with Isaac earning four Golden Globe nominations (winning once), while Mulligan has been nominated for an Oscar four times along with four Golden Globe nominations. Melton and Spaeny have both scored themselves a Golden Globe nomination.

After bouncing around to various TV shows, Beef was undeniably Jin’s breakout project, but he isn’t the only one to earn exciting opportunities in the wake of the series’ success. Jack Schreier, who directed a majority of the first season, was first tapped by Marvel Studios to helm Thunderbolts*, and he’s set to direct the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s X-Men.
