As the warmer months roll around once again, Brits are seeking out the sunniest spots to spend their summers. But one town has been revealed as the sunniest in the UK – and it offers around 240 hours of sunshine in June.
The seaside resort town, Shanklin, is located on Sandown Bay, on the Isle of Wight. The small town is lucky enough to get an average of five hours and eight minutes of sunlight a day, according to The Independent’s analysis of Met Office data. In June, the town gets even brighter with eight hours of sunshine per day on average, according to Weather2travel.
Shanklin is a charming town with sandy beaches and stunning cliffs. The town boasts a picturesque location – ideal for Brits looking for a UK getaway this summer. In June, the town typically experiences warm weather, with average daily highs between 18 and 20 degrees Celsius and cool nighttime temperatures between 11 and 13C.
While July in Shanklin offers similar temperatures, August sees a slight increase, with highs of 22C.
The town offers visitors plenty of relaxing activities to do during their stay. Shanklin’s beaches feature deckchairs and parasols that can be hired for an affordable price as well as kayaking and paddleboarding.
Shanklin is also home to picturesque views and visitors can make the most of them by stopping at sunning viewpoints like Shanklin Chine – the town’s oldest tourist attraction.

For some light entertainment, Shanklin Theatre is open – a 615-seat venue hosting comedy, music, dance and touring shows all year round.
Visitors can browse the shops in Shankin’s Old Village too which features charming historic thatched cottages, cosy tearooms, charming shops and cosy pubs. The town is also conveniently just a short walk from the beach.
