Air Transat Adds Five Europe Routes, Including Geneva and Birmingham

If you fly from Quebec City or Montreal, Air Transat‘s summer 2027 schedule has the most for you. The airline is adding five new non-stop routes to Europe from Montreal (YUL), Toronto (YYZ), and Quebec City (YQB). Two of them go to cities it has never served, Geneva (GVA) and Birmingham (BHX).

Air Transat announced the routes on October 29, 2026. Cash fares on them earn points in Staria, its new loyalty program, and VIPorter points can also be redeemed on Air Transat flights.

All five routes run seasonally, from early or mid-June to late October 2027, with one or two flights a week.

Route Days Weekly flights Operating period
Montreal (YUL)–Geneva (GVA) Tuesday, Saturday 2 June 19 to October 23, 2027
Toronto (YYZ)–Birmingham (BHX) Tuesday, Friday 2 June 22 to October 22, 2027
Quebec City (YQB)–Lyon (LYS) Tuesday 1 June 8 to October 26, 2027
Quebec City (YQB)–Barcelona (BCN) Monday 1 June 14 to October 25, 2027
Montreal (YUL)–Faro (FAO) Monday 1 June 14 to October 25, 2027

Air Transat’s partnership with Porter Airlines also connects travellers from across Canada to its international network.

Geneva and Birmingham Join Air Transat’s Network

Geneva (GVA) will be a new city for Air Transat. The French-speaking city on Lake Geneva is also a gateway to the Alps. Flights from Montreal (YUL) run twice weekly from June 19, 2027.

From Toronto (YYZ), Birmingham (BHX) joins London (LGW) and Manchester (MAN) in Air Transat’s England network. It sits in the middle of the country, close to Stratford-upon-Avon and the Cotswolds, and flights run twice weekly from June 22, 2027.

I’ve flown Air Transat between Toronto and London a couple of times with zero issues. My flights left on time, the food was fine, and they even served wine in economy.

More Non-Stop Flights to Europe from Quebec City and Montreal

The new Lyon (LYS) and Barcelona (BCN) routes give Quebec City (YQB) five non-stop European destinations in summer 2027, alongside Paris (CDG), Marseille (MRS), and Nantes (NTE).

From Montreal (YUL), the new Faro (FAO) route reaches Portugal’s Algarve, which Air Transat already serves from Toronto (YYZ). Faro will be the airline’s third Portuguese airport from Montreal, after Lisbon (LIS) and Porto (OPO). The Lyon, Barcelona, and Faro routes each run once a week.

Closer to home, the Quebec City to Puerto Plata (POP) and Montreal to St. Maarten (SXM) routes will now run year-round, with one flight a week in summer.

How Staria Works on Air Transat’s New Routes

Air Transat’s Staria program opened on November 2, 2026, and every one of these routes earns and redeems its points.

Earning Staria points

Flights earn 3 points per dollar on Budget fares, 5 points on Standard, and 7 points on Flex, plus 5 points per dollar on extras like seats and bags. The rate depends only on the fare you buy, since Staria has no status tiers.

Carrier surcharges earn points, but airport and government taxes don’t. When I priced a Montreal (YUL) to Paris (CDG) budget fare at $468, the $388 in base fare and carrier surcharge earned 1,164 points at 3x, while the $80 in taxes earned nothing.

Transat packages earn 1 point per dollar on the full price before taxes and fees, and 5 points per dollar on extras.

Redeeming Staria points

On flights, points can cover 10% to 40% of the fare in 10% steps with the rest in cash, or the whole fare. On packages, points cover between 10% and 40% of the booking, and the share varies.

The cash part of a points-and-cash booking still earns points. Points can’t pay airport or government taxes, though, and they can’t be used for extras like seats or bags.

Staria points don’t have a fixed value. Air Transat prices them dynamically, so what a point is worth will change from one booking to the next.

The booking screen shows the full cash price next to each points option, so check what you’re getting before you redeem.

Stars and constellations

Alongside points, members earn stars by completing missions in their account. Each new star level lets you pick one reward from a short list, and a trip reward covers everyone on the booking.

In my account, the first choice was free standard seat selection, 50% bonus points on my next package, or 2,000 points.

Up to nine people can pool their points in a constellation, so a family flying to Geneva (GVA) or Barcelona (BCN) together can put everything each traveller earns into one balance.

Booking through Porter or a travel agent

Bookings made through a travel agent or an online travel agency still earn Staria points, as long as your member number is on the reservation. You can add it yourself in Manage My Booking before the flight, and missing points can be claimed for up to six months.

Porter is an either/or. Flights booked through Air Transat earn Staria points, while flights booked through Porter earn VIPorter points, and an agency booking only earns Staria if it’s an Air Transat ticket.

VIPorter points can also be redeemed on Air Transat flights. As our 2025 guide to VIPorter partner redemptions covered, those bookings come with forced connections, limited availability, and vague pricing rules. Check the itinerary carefully before you confirm.

Air Transat also plans co-branded Staria credit cards with Desjardins and Visa, which it says will launch later in 2027.

What the New Routes Mean for Staria Members

Staria suits households that fly Air Transat once or twice a year. They can pool their points in one balance and put them toward the next trip on any of these routes, checking the cash value at booking since it moves.

Where you live decides how much you gain. Quebec City travellers get two new non-stops, Montreal adds Geneva (GVA) and Faro (FAO), and Toronto adds Birmingham (BHX) to Air Transat’s England service.

Conclusion

If you live in Quebec City or Montreal, you gain the most from Air Transat’s summer 2027 schedule, with four new non-stops from the two cities. Toronto travellers heading to central England can now fly straight into Birmingham (BHX).

Staria makes these cash fares a little more rewarding, since every fare earns points you can put toward a later trip. VIPorter redemptions remain a backup, with the limits we’ve covered.
