Jully Poca was cutting weight for her Aria Wild cruiserweight title fight on April 12 in Derby, completely unaware that Misfits Boxing was forced to postpone the event due to “scheduling issues” — until she saw the promotion’s announcement on social media.
“I feel like crying and punching someone at the same time,” Poca wrote on Twitter. “I weigh 65kg. I dropped 1kg to travel and not gain so much weight and suffer. This exact moment I’m doing cardio, with too much clothes, and totally weak and starving, because I’m going down in weight … I hope that is a joke.”
Unfortunately, it’s real.
“To the fighters and teams, I know what you guys go through and the disappointment of moving dates. I’m truly sorry and you know it’s out of our hands,” promoter Mams Taylor wrote on Twitter. “The feeling of letting people down and not being able to fix it immediately sucks and has weighed heavily on me. I’m sorry.”
Misfits recently postponed its Manchester card after KSI withdrew due to illness.
“Misfits is still in its infancy,” Taylor continued. “We’re two and a half years into a decades long plan. We are so proud of what we have achieved together thus far and things will only keep improving and areas of weakness will become strengths. The comeback will be everything and big changes will be implemented.”
Misfits is expected to announce a reworked fight card for May 16 in Derby.
