Jake Shields Provides Positive Update On ‘Struggling’ Nick Diaz: ‘Finally Heading In The Right Direction’

The leader of the Diaz army is doing better.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) legend Nick Diaz had a tough 2024. He had two fight cancelations – one for UFC Abu Dhabi and the other for UFC 310, which resulted from a troubling video of a shirtless Diaz lighting grass on fire leaked online, leading to drug issue accusations from a past girlfriend.

Two weeks ago, Diaz posted a video revealing he was in Mexico at a “retreat center,” which was nice to see him in good spirits.

Recently, Jake Shields, Diaz’s good friend, provided an even better update on the Stockon bad boy.

“He’s doing a lot better,” Shields said on the Overdogs podcast. “I’m not going to get into anything personal with him, but he’s had some stuff going on for a little while, and it’s finally heading in the right direction. So, I’m hopeful for Nick because he’s a brother to me and one of my best friends. You know life is tough sometimes with ups and downs, and things can happen.”

“Nick was dealing with something, and it’s heading in the right direction, which I haven’t felt that way in a long time,” Shields concluded. “I feel a lot better about the situation, but we’ll see. Time will tell. I’m so close to him, so it’s painful to watch him struggle with things, but I think he’s going to finally be better.”

Whatever Diaz is dealing with, we at MMAMania.com hope he pulls through to the other side.

The 41-year-old mixed martial arts (MMA) icon was last in action against Robbie Lawler at UFC 266 in Sept. 2021, where he was stopped via technical knockout.
