Kawhi Leonard concerned about Clippers’ sudden struggles to win

0

He didn’t want to talk about his best game of the season, about how he was a force, about how he played at such a high level.

The game wasn’t about his season-high 33 points, Kawhi Leonard said. It wasn’t about how he played nearly 40 minutes or his season-high 10 rebounds.

For Leonard, the game was just a reminder of the Clippers’ struggles since the All-Star break.

Even with Leonard playing arguably his best game of the season, the Clippers lost 108-102 to the Lakers on Sunday night at Crypto.com Arena.

“Just got to get better,” Leonard. “It’s not about individual accolades. We got to get a team win. And I think I said we got to limit our mistakes and hopefully the ball falls for us in the future.”

Clippers coach Tyronn Lue, however, had high praise for Leonard. He liked that Leonard had four offensive rebounds and how he played with purpose.

“When he’s trusting, he’s going to the offensive glass,” Lue said. “You saw him crash and explode for some offensive rebounds. Having 10 rebounds, that’s what I kind of look at when I gauge how Kawhi is playing, if he’s rebounding the basketball. And he did that well tonight, along with scoring the basketball. So, like I said, he’s coming, starting to get his legs, starting to feel better and we’re going to need that.”

The Clippers have lost five of six games since the break.

They are still sixth in the Western Conference, but are tied with the Golden State Warriors at 32-28. And the Minnesota Timberwolves (33-29), Sacramento Kings (31-28) and Dallas Mavericks (32-29) are right on their heels for the final guaranteed playoff spot.

“Just got to keep fighting,” Leonard said. “Got to stay focused each and every game and try to limit our mistakes.”

The Clippers had a horrible end to the second quarter, not scoring for the final 7 minutes 35 seconds, falling behind 13 points by halftime. They trailed by as much as 21 points in the third quarter.

But Leonard scored 10 points in the fourth, including a three-pointer that got the Clippers to within five points with 1:40 left.

The Clippers didn’t score again.

“We got down 21 tonight. I liked our fight to come back, didn’t give in,” Lue said. “Being able to play through adversity. Being able to play through missed shots. So, I give our guys credit for that. But it’s a long season. It’s a hard season. Every night is going to be a tough game and we understand that.”

Injuries hurt the Clippers

The Clippers seemingly made a step toward becoming fully healthy Sunday when leading scorer Norman Powell returned, only for the veteran guard to leave in the first quarter because of right hamstring soreness.

Powell played nine minutes and scored four points. He missed the previous five games because of a left knee injury (patellar tendinopathy).

“He’s going to get re-evaluated tomorrow,” Lue said.

The Clippers also didn’t have role player Derrick Jones Jr. (right groin strain) and Ben Simmons (left knee soreness) against the Lakers. Lue said Simmons is considered day to day.

Biden Appointed Federal Judge who Blocked Trump USAID Freeze is a Far-Left Activist and Biden Donor, Who Pushed to Defund Police and Drop BLM Charges, Previously Accused Trump of “Hatred Towards Muslim People” | The Gateway Pundit

0

Judge Amir Ali

A Biden-appointed federal judge who is trying to stop the President from freezing foreign aid and USAID disbursements was discovered to be a radical-left anti-Trump activist who has accused the President of hating Muslims and lobbied for Black Lives Matter activists and defunding the police.

As The Gateway Pundit recently reported, Judge Amir Ali blocked Trump’s order halting foreign funding and ordered the Trump Administration to pay the foreign contracts last week.

“At least to date, Defendants have not offered any explanation for why a blanket suspension of all congressionally appropriated foreign aid, which set off a shockwave and upended reliance interests for thousands of agreements with businesses, nonprofits, and organizations around the country, was a rational precursor to reviewing programs,” Judge Ali wrote in a 15-page order reviewed by The Gateway Pundit.

BREAKING: Biden Judge Dresses Down DOJ Lawyers Over USAID Disbursement, Orders Trump Admin to Pay Foreign Aid Contracts

Ali’s order was temporarily paused by the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday pending a review of the far-left judge’s ruling.

According to the Daily Wire, Ali, the former Executive Director of the leftist MacArthur Justice Center, is a donor to Democrats, including Joe Biden, whom he gave thousands of dollars during his 2020 bid against Trump, and former DNC Chair Jamie Harrison in a bid for South Carolina’s U.S. Senate race.

Prior to the 2020 election, the judge was an opponent of Trump’s 2017 travel ban, which halted travel and visa issuance from several Islamic nations to prevent terrorists from entering the U.S.

In an editorial for the far-left Guardian newspaper, Ali described the President’s order as a “campaign of animus against people of the Muslim faith.” In a 2022 interview, he further claimed that the President has a “history of animus and hatred towards Muslim people. In the same interview, he also called for DEI to be implemented within the legal profession in DC, calling it a problem that he’s “one of few people of North African or Middle Eastern descent, one of few immigrants to the country, and one of few Muslim Americans.”

Ali then championed his work “breaking down the barriers to the representation of people of color and other minorities in the appellate profession” with the Appellate Project.

As Executive Director of the MacArthur Justice Center, a Black Lives Matter-aligned group that advocates for defunding the police and dropping felony charges against violent BLM terrorists, the group argued in a court brief that asking jurors about their views on BLM “undermines judicial principles of equity and the public’s confidence.”

Ali also worked as Director of the pro-equity and anti-racism group Mosaic Theater, an organization that celebrated BLM riots destroying American cities, which it described as “a summer of Black-led uprisings against state violence have made clear that this country requires fundamental changes, both systemic and institutional.”

Similarly, President Trump’s agenda has faced efforts from other far-left activists, masquerading as Federal judges, to stymie his policy objectives, specifically those to cut the federal budget.

The Gateway Pundit reported that U.S. District Judge John McConnell, an Obama appointee who was caught on video calling President Trump a tyrant and expressing anti-White Critical Race Theory views, recently blocked President Trump’s initiative to freeze federal spending at the behest of Democrat state attorneys general.

Obama-appointed Judge Paul Engelmayer has also weaponized his court to block the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from accessing a crucial Treasury payment system as requested by Trump-hating New York Attorney General Letitia James and 18 Democrat state attorneys general infuriated over Trump’s efforts to downsize government.

Both of these judges are expected to face impeachment proceedings in the House of Representatives.

Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) says Amir Ali should also be impeached. He responded to Amir Ali’s record Sunday, calling him “a woke political activist whose career has been built on attacking police, American culture, and accusing President Trump.” He added, “Impeaching him should be a no brainer.”

Crews battled wildfires in North and South Carolina on Sunday amid dry conditions and gusty winds as residents were forced to evacuate in some areas.

The National Weather Service warned of increased fire danger in the region due to a combination of critically dry fuels and very low relative humidity.

In South Carolina, where more than 175 fires burned 6.6 square miles, Gov. Henry McMaster declared a state of emergency on Sunday to support the wildfire response effort, and a statewide burning ban remained in effect.

Crews made progress containing a fire in the Carolina Forest area west of the coastal resort city of Myrtle Beach, where residents had been ordered to evacuate several neighborhoods, according to Horry County Fire Rescue. Video showed some people running down the street as smoke filled the sky. But by late Sunday afternoon, the fire department announced that Carolina Forest evacuees could return home.

The South Carolina Forestry Commission estimated Sunday evening that the blaze had burned 2.5 square miles (6.5 square kilometers) with 30 percent of it contained. No structures had succumbed to the blaze and no injuries had been reported as of Sunday morning, officials said.

In North Carolina, the U.S. Forest Service said fire crews were working to contain multiple wildfires burning in four forests across the state on Sunday. The largest, about 400 acres (162 hectares), was at Uwharrie National Forest, about 50 miles (80.47 kilometers) east of Charlotte. The Forest Service said Sunday afternoon that it had made progress on the fire, reaching about one-third containment.

The small southwestern town of Tryon in Polk County, North Carolina, urged some residents to evacuate Saturday as a fire spread rapidly there. The evacuations remained in effect Sunday. A decision on whether to lift them was expected to be made Monday after intentional burns are set to try to stop the fire from spreading.

That fire has burned about 500 acres (202 hectares) as of late Sunday, with zero percent containment, according to the Polk County Emergency Management/Fire Marshal’s office. The North Carolina Forest Service was conducting water drops and back-burning operations on the ground, and area residents should expect a lot of smoke during those operations, officials said.

‘Tears of joy!!!’ It’s a pip for Big Bear bald eagles Jackie and Shadow

0

After several years of disappointment, there was a sign Sunday that the Big Bear bald eagle couple Jackie and Shadow may soon have a hatchling.

The Friends of Big Bear Valley announced the discovery on Sunday afternoon: “Initial pip has been confirmed today at 15:09.” (Except that line was all in capital letters.)

It’s a thrilling time for the conservation group, which operates the 24-hour webcam that shows the eagles’ 145-foot-high nest in a Jeffrey pine overlooking Big Bear Lake.

Fans who have been on pip watch are over the moon. Pipping is when a baby bird uses its beak to crack open its shell, and pip watch is the online vigil and hoopla surrounding that activity.

“Tears of joy!!!” responded one on Facebook. “It’s been a roller coaster of emotions the last couple years.”

“Oh please come out little one!!!!” wrote another.

In 2023, Jackie and Shadow’s eggs were eaten by ravens. And last winter also held heartbreak. The pair added a rare third egg to their clutch in late January, but the cold weather was severe. At one point, a storm kept Jackie on her nest for 62 hours straight, sometimes completely covered in snow.

In winter 2024, bald eagle Jackie pops out from under snow that fell during a severe storm.

(Friends of Big Bear Valley)

Low oxygen levels at high altitude are one of the reasons Friends of Big Bear Valley suspects Jackie’s three eggs failed to hatch last year. Cold, snowy winters and rainy springs also dim young eaglets’ chances of survival.

Bald eagle eggs typically have a 50-50 chance of hatching, according to Sandy Steers, biologist and executive director of Friends of Big Bear Valley. Once hatched, fewer than 50% of eaglets survive their first year, according to the American Eagle Foundation.

But hope springs eternal, and the couple had a surprising three-egg clutch again this year.

“Even when there’s a pip, it’s going to take at least a day — sometimes longer — for the chick to hatch,” Steers told The Times during the 2024 pip watch. “With nature, we need to be patient. It can teach us to just breathe and enjoy the process instead of focusing on the result.”

Sunday around 10 p.m., more than 8,000 viewers were watching a sleeping bald eagle sit on its nest amid snow.

The eagle awoke and shook out its feathers, fluffing the straw surrounding the trio of eggs as the camera zoomed in. Then the eagle resettled itself, rocking gently back and forth atop the eggs.

Times staff writer Clara Harter contributed to this report.

Must-watch fighter Hyder Amil tore biceps, MCL before UFC Vegas 103

0

Ultimate Fighting Championship Featherweight Hyder Amil kept his undefeated record intact at UFC Vegas 103 last night (Sat., Mar. 1, 2025) when he defeated William Gomis via split decision from inside the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Amil, unfortunately, suffered a lot of loss while training for this big fight. He lost his father, his best friend, and his dog coming into his fight.

During his post-fight interview with the media, Amil was brought to tears because yesterday was his best friend’s birthday.

“Today was one of my best friend’s birthday. I don’t know if you ever had someone that you could call anytime and talk to, and I’m sorry. F—k,” Amil told MMAMania.com. “I just held everything back for after this fight, and it just sucks. And I just, I want to dedicate this win to him.”

On top of all of his loss, “Hurricane” suffered a torn bicep in training camp and then shredded his knee two weeks out.

“Everyone asked if I was going to pull out. I was like, No,” Amil said. “I was sparing everyone one-handed for two months of the camp, and in the last month, [my bicep] healed. Then I tore my MCL, like, two weeks ago, and I was like, you know, it’s just another thing. But you know what, a champion fights through anything, and with all those things, the injuries, and everything, you just gotta show that’s the kind of heart I have. Man, I can fight. I’ve been through so much in my life.”

Since arriving in the UFC, Amil has been must-watch television with his nonstop pressure and lack of fear of putting himself into danger. However, for some dumb reason, the promotion has only put him inside its Apex facility.

The 34-year-old is begging UFC to put him in front of a crowd.

“My fights are way too exciting for the Apex,” Amil said. “I can’t imagine if my last fight was in an arena, people would be going bonkers—even this fight. Please put me in an arena. I feel like I fight better with people. It’s just always more exciting when you win in front of people. And you know what? UFC is about having spectacular fights. Watch all my fights. Every time I fight, the roof is going off. Just expect that if I fight in an arena.”

Why Gen Z Is Ditching the Corner Office Dream — and How Businesses Can Adapt

0

Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that Generation Z will represent about 30% of the American workforce by 2030. This generation brings a fundamentally different outlook on careers and life compared to previous generations. The traditional dream of climbing the corporate ladder to a corner office no longer holds the same allure it once did.

Today’s emerging professionals are increasingly focused on what’s termed the “emotional paycheck” — a blend of meaningful work, personal fulfillment and work-life integration. According to recent studies, 75% of Gen Z defines success through personal happiness rather than traditional metrics. This shift is fundamentally reshaping how we view professional achievement and success.

Gen Z seeks more than competitive salaries and prestigious titles. Research shows that 65% prioritize workplace culture over compensation when job hunting, while 42% favor employers who prioritize mental health. They actively seek authentic experiences, purposeful work and organizations whose values mirror their own. This mindset is revolutionizing workplace dynamics and redefining what constitutes professional success.

Let’s explore the key factors driving Gen Z’s influence on our modern understanding of success. We’ll examine their unique challenges, aspirations and their role in bringing deeper meaning to professional careers.

Related: Gen Z Talent Will Walk Away — Unless You Try These 6 Strategies

The truth behind Gen Z’s job disappointment

Gen Z faces significant challenges in today’s job market. The traditional belief that higher education guarantees success is rapidly eroding. Let’s examine the challenging realities they encounter.

College education’s broken promise

A college degree no longer guarantees financial security. Studies indicate that 24% of Americans consider student loan debt their biggest financial regret. Despite their educational achievements, Gen Z graduates often find themselves in worse financial positions than their predecessors.

Putting in more hours for less pay: The real income gap

Income disparity significantly impacts Gen Z. They work longer hours than previous generations while earning comparatively less. Entry-level positions frequently offer only half the salary needed for homeownership. This gap leads to widespread frustration and burnout, with 60% of Gen Z workers reporting overwhelming work-related stress.

The housing market disconnect: Unattainable dreams

Gen Z faces an unprecedented housing affordability crisis. With median home prices reaching $433,100, prospective buyers need annual earnings of approximately $166,600. However, the median household income remains at just $78,538. Housing costs have escalated at more than double the rate of income growth, making homeownership seem increasingly unattainable for many young adults.

These statistics paint a challenging picture for Gen Z. They confront a reality where academic achievement and professional dedication don’t necessarily translate into financial stability or job satisfaction. This explains their search for alternative paths to success.

The emotional paycheck: Why Gen Z is turning away from the corner office dream

Gen Z is actively redefining workplace success. They pursue authentic careers driven by purpose and meaning. This demonstrates their desire for more than just impressive job titles. Gen Z has arrived with transformative intentions. The traditional appeal of corner offices and substantial salaries has given way to a quest for deeper significance.

Authenticity vs. career success

Gen Z prioritizes authenticity over traditional career advancement. Research shows that only 50% aspire to leadership positions, demonstrating their emphasis on staying true to personal values and identity in the workplace. This fundamental shift reflects how young professionals are redefining success on their own terms.

This transformation is actively reshaping workplace dynamics, creating environments where transparency and genuine self-expression are not just valued but actively encouraged and celebrated.

The quest for work that matters

Purpose drives Gen Z’s career decisions. Studies indicate that about 60% choose jobs that align with their values over higher-paying positions. They actively seek roles that resonate with their personal beliefs and enable them to create positive societal impact.

Many are gravitating toward emerging fields like sustainable technology, digital innovation and social impact ventures, driven by their desire to contribute to solutions that address global challenges.

Blending work and life instead of chasing traditional success

Work-life integration is crucial for Gen Z professionals. Research shows that about 70% prioritize positions offering flexibility and autonomy. They seek careers that enhance their lifestyle rather than consume it.

This marks a significant shift from previous generations’ work-first mindset. Gen Z emphasizes building a well-rounded life where professional achievement is just one aspect of their identity.

Their perspective is revolutionizing workplace norms. They champion authenticity, purpose-driven work and lifestyle balance, compelling organizations to evolve.

Redefining success in the modern workplace

The professional landscape is experiencing unprecedented change, with Gen Z leading this evolution. Today’s young workforce seeks deeper meaning beyond financial rewards. Studies reveal that 73% of Gen Z workers prioritize organizational culture over compensation when evaluating job opportunities. This shift is fundamentally transforming workplace success metrics.

In today’s dynamic work environment, it’s crucial to recognize that today’s young employees are the future leaders of tomorrow. To effectively prepare for this shift, companies need to adapt and create innovative strategies that resonate with Gen Z employees. While these transformations may be gradual and demand a long-term commitment, the following insights can assist in enhancing your approach to managing Gen Z employees. By gaining a deeper understanding of their perspectives and aligning your strategies accordingly, you can bridge the generational gap and foster a more productive work environment.

Companies need to adapt by offering flexible work arrangements, transparent communication, robust training programs and a culture that actively promotes inclusivity throughout the hiring process, workplace environment and leadership practices.

NYC’s Roosevelt Hotel may fetch $1B in sale after migrants move out: sources

0

The city’s announcement that it would move migrants out of the Roosevelt Hotel by June made the precious East Midtown site Topic No.1 among commercial developers.

The property’s owner, the Pakistan government’s Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), wants to sell it for what sources said could be $1 billion.

A developer could tear down the antiquated hotel to build a skyscraper of up to 1.8 million square feet on the roughly 42,000 square-foot parcel, sources said. A project so large would need to exploit recent area rezoning which raised maximum FAR (floor-to-area ratio) from 15 to 30, available only if a developer provided transit and public-space improvements and amenities subject to city and MTA review.

People outside the Roosevelt Hotel wait for their children after school pickup. Michael Nagle

PIA’s sale agent, JLL, has yet to issue a formal solicitation, which will likely happen in the spring. However, market sources told Realty Check that “informal conversations of interest” have taken place with developers including Tishman Speyer, Related Companies, SL Green and Vornado.

The Roosevelt site takes up the full block bounded by Madison and Vanderbilt avenues between East 45th and East 46th streets. A new tower would enjoy direct access to Grand Central Terminal. Its skyscraper neighbors would include the nearly finished JP Morgan Chase headquarters and SL Green’s One Vanderbilt.

A new tower might combine offices, a hotel and retail. A buyer would need to pay a substantial termination fee to the Hotel Trades Council/Local 6 union even if the project didn’t include a hotel, as per its contract with Roosevelt’s owners.

JLL has represented PIA since early last year, but its role was limited as long as the city’s $220 million Roosevelt lease remained in effect. Now that the city has exercised an option to end the lease with four months’ notice, the hotel site has become the hottest potato in the Manhattan shoot-for-the-sky building scene.

A view of the construction of JPMorgan Chase’s headquarters on Park Avenue. Christopher Sadowski

PIA is eager to unload the site to help alleviate the airline’s and the government’s cash-crunch. The Jerusalem Post, which monitors Pakistani finances closely, last week called the lease termination “a major financial setback” for PIA. The Islamabad government is under pressure to meet terms of a $7 billion IMF bailout agreement.

“Any development plan would have a lot of moving parts,” one investment-sale specialist noted  “A  buyer has to make a deal with the union. Their proposal has to go through ULURP. They need to find an anchor tenant. You’re looking at a three-to-five-year process.”

Reopening the Roosevelt as a hotel short-term wasn’t likely, an industry source said – “It was not in great shape before the migrants came and God knows what it’s like now.” Tens of thousands of migrants, not all of them legal and some with criminal records, have lived there for nearly two years.

Reps for SL Green, Vornado, Tishman Speyer and Related either declined to comment or didn’t get back to us. Premier investment-sale wizard Darcy (“Skyscraper Queen”) Stacom, who just launched new capital markets advisory firm StacomSilverstein with Wendy Silverstein, declined to comment on the site’s potential value.

City Planning Commissioner Daniel Garodnick, who was instrumental in rezoning East Midtown to allow larger buildings, couldn’t immediately be reached.

JLL New York-area president Peter Riguardi wouldn’t comment except to say, “We are very impressed with the sophisticated developers showing interest.”

Two new leases have taken up 19,000 more square feet at 5 Penn Plaza. They follow 70,000 square feet of leases in January.

The nonprofit NY E-Health Collaborative, which works  with the state Department of Health, took 15,000 square feet on the twelfth floor. Tech firm Dynatrace took 4,000 square feet on the 24th floor.

The 650,000 square foot building on Eighth Avenue between West 33rd and 34th streets, owned by investor Stephen Haymes, recently completed a major upgrading and is nearly 90% leased. JLL’s Mitch Konsker, leader of the landlord’s agency team, said, “5 Penn has been powerfully repositioned to meet modern-office demand.”

Since the sale of East Hampton’s historic Hedges Inn to the owners of the Colony Hotel in Palm Beach, South Fork-watchers have wondered y how  Andrew and Sarah Wetenhall would brand the restaurant space previously leased to Zero Bond club king Scott Sartiano.

My colleague Jennifer Keil reported last month they plan an all-day restaurant that will “partner with local farmers and feature down-home events like bingo and trivia nights.”

We happened to dine at the Colony’s restaurant, Swifty’s, when we were in Palm Beach last week. Although it’s none of our business, it struck us that its seasonal, modern-American menu would be a logical fit for the indoor-outdoor Hedges setting. Well-heeled, well-behaved customers at Swifty’s (and at its former Lexington Avenue location)  won’t likely create a noise problem like the alleged one that led to Sartiano’s ouster.

A woman looks out at the Empire State building and Manhattan skyline from the Summit at One Vanderbilt observatory. REUTERS

And “down-home events like bingo and trivia nights” are already in full swing at Swifty’s in Palm Beach.

There’s finally some good news at the Trump Organization’s beleaguered 40 Wall Street, where office tenants have dwindled and a 20,000 square-foot, former Duane Reade has yet to be replaced.

Nero Food Lab, an Italian restaurant and gourmet food shop and bakery, just opened on the ground floor, more than five years since the 17,000 square-foot venue was first announced in January of 2020.

The deal appeared dead when the pandemic struck. But the handsome eatery bowed for a “soft opening” two weeks ago and plans a full-scale launch soon. There’s also a smaller Nero at Trump Tower.
