Apple donating to LA wildfire relief, helping Apple Card users

0

Apple is donating to LA wildfire relief efforts and will let impacted Apple Card users postpone their payments.

Apple Card users residing in an area declared a natural disaster zone by FEMA may be eligible for delayed payments, as part of a program launched by Apple on Thursday. Eligible users can enroll in the program via the Messages app, where they must contact Apple Card Support.

As shared by Mark Gurman, those affected by the situation in Los Angeles can skip a payment in the month they enroll, and no interest will accumulate during this period. If an account is in good standing, it will remain current while it is enrolled in the program.

Accounts that are past due will not go further past due for the duration of the program enrollment. Standard purchase APR will apply the following month.

If a user’s spending is restricted, then it will remain restricted for the duration of the program. Users’ previously scheduled payments will be processed as normal, unless a payment is canceled via Apple Wallet, online, or with the help of an Apple Card Specialist.

The wildfires in the Los Angeles area have caused significant damage, with thousands of structures destroyed. Thousands of people have left the area, and the current death toll is unknown at the time of writing. At least six people are known to have died as a result of the wildfires.

In a social media post on X, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook has described the Los Angeles fires as heartbreaking. He also praised the heroic efforts of first responders, and said that Apple would make a donation to support relief efforts.

Apple typically provides assistance for users affected by natural disasters as a means of easing the financial burden in times of crisis. The company also frequently donates to natural disaster relief efforts, as was the case in October 2024 during the aftermath of Hurricane Milton.

Midnight Mania! Merab Dvalishvili will ask Ilia Topuria to help corner him against Umar Nurmagomedov at UFC 311

0

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Merab Dvalishvili is nearing his first official defense of the UFC bantamweight title and the Georgian champion will need all the help he can get. That’s because Dvalishvili will be going up against undefeated sensation Umar Nurmagomedov at UFC 311 on Jan. 18 from Inglewood, California. Nurmagomedov is the cousin of former UFC lightweight champion and undefeated all-time great, Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Despite coming off a unanimous decision win over Sean O’Malley at UFC 306 to win the UFC bantamweight crown, Dvalishvili is currently a +275 underdog entering his clash with Nurmagomedov at UFC 311. That’s also due in part to Nurmagomedov being 18-0 (6-0 UFC) and coming off a lopsided win over Cory Sandhagen last August. He arguably has better wrestling than Dvalishvili and has a pretty robust arsenal on the feet as well. It will be a tough challenge for Dvalishvili as he looks to earn more stripes as champion.

Luckily, Dvalishvili has the support of his home country of Georgia, which includes fellow countryman and UFC champion, Ilia Topuria. The two are more than just acquaintances and fully support one another as UFC titleholders. In fact, Dvalishvili intends to ask “El Matador” to help corner him at UFC 311 later this month. That’s if the UFC featherweight king has time in his busy schedule.

Check it out below:

“Yeah I’m going to ask Ilia [Topuria] if he wants this, we will see,” said Dvalishvili.

“I’m going to ask Ilia if he has time and go from there,” he later added.

What do you think fight fans? Does Dvalishvili have a better chance of defeating Umar Nurmagomedov with Topuria in his corner?

Who Is Douglas Emhoff? 5 Things To Know About New U.S. Second Gentleman – Hollywood Life

0

View gallery

Lawyer Douglas Emhoff has made history as the first second gentleman of the United States. He was there for his wife Kamala Harris, 60, as the former California senator was sworn in as Vice President of the United States at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 20, 2021, as Joe Biden, 77, became our 46th president. Shortly after Biden and Harris’ victory was announced, Douglas took to Twitter to share a sweet photo of himself giving his lady love a big hug after she found out the wonderful news. “So proud of you,” he wrote in the caption along with two red heart and two American flag emojis.

His support remained unwavering as the 60-year-old stood by his wife, who ran for president as the Democratic candidate. This came after President Biden endorsed her following his withdrawal from the November 2024 election. Kamala Harris, who made history as America’s first female, Black, and South Asian vice president, campaigned alongside her running mate, Tim Walz, against Donald Trump and J.D. Vance in the 2024 presidential election, which the Republican Party won.

Ever since Joe revealed Kamala was his VP pick in August, Douglas vowed to be “ready to work” as the November 3 Election Day drew closer and closer, and that’s exactly what he did. So, who’s the lucky man that gets to be Kamala’s husband? Here’s the answer to that question below:

Kamala’s Husband Has Worked in Law for More Than 25 Years

Douglas shares a love for law with Kamala. He attended University of Southern California’s Gould School of Law, and is now a partner at DLA Piper (a global law firm). “He represents large domestic and international corporations and some of today’s highest profile individuals and influencers in complex business, real estate and intellectual property litigation disputes,” Douglas’s bio reads on the law firm’s website.

Douglas Also Specializes in Entertainment Law

One of his clients included TBWA, the ad agency which developed the Taco Bell Chihuahua. This led Wrench, a company based in Michigan, to sue Taco Bell over breach of contract because it claimed to have created the “Psycho Chihuahua,” according to Douglas’s profile in The Hollywood Reporter. Douglas kept TBWA from taking on the financial burden of this lawsuit bill.

Douglas Met Kamala Through A Blind Date

Before Kamala entered his life, Douglas was married to a woman named Kerstin whom he welcomed two children with (a son named Cole, who graduated from Colorado College in 2017, and their daughter Ella, who is studying at Parsons School of Design, according to a 2018 Vogue article).

After Douglas divorced from Kerstin, he was a single dad who was eventually set up on a blind date with Kamala by PR consultant Chrisette Hudlin in 2013, according to his aforementioned profile in THR. It was a great idea, because Douglas and Kamala were married by 2014. Kamala now even has a close relationship with Douglas’s children, as well as her husband’s ex-wife!

“They [Douglas’s kids] are my endless source of love and pure joy. I am so thankful to Doug, to Kerstin, and most of all, to Ella and Cole,” the senator wrote in an Elle essay for Mother’s Day 2019. Douglas and his two children even posed for a sweet photo to share on Kamala’s 54th birthday in Oct. 2018, which you can see above.

Douglas is Kamala’s Number One Cheerleader

He is often seen by the senator’s side at events, repping her “Kamala” T-shirt and his Twitter page is basically a fan account for Kamala, where he often retweets her posts and television appearances. He also shares sneak peeks into their married life, such as this fireworks date. His presence in her and Joe’s presidential campaign didn’t go unnoticed and he proved he would go above and beyond to support his wife and her opportunity to become vice president.

From spending his 56th birthday asking for votes in Virginia parking lots to greeting potential voters in his Biden-Harris gear in such a low-key way that most people didn’t realize who he was, he has been there for Kamala when she was running for president and then vice president, and his dedication has never wavered. Rep. Ted Deutch (D-Fla.), who has campaigned with Emhoff, even called him an election-year “sensation”, the Washington Post reported.

In 2024, as Kamala Harris campaigned to become the first female president of the United States, Douglas worked to draw attention to her and Tim Walz’s campaign. He accompanied her to rallies and promoted the campaign on social media. On July 23, 2024, he shared on X, “My wife, Vice President Kamala Harris, is running for president. She needs your support. We need you to register, we need you to vote, and we need you to help elect her the next President of the United States.”

The lawyer Considers Himself An “Advocate for Justice and Equality.”

Douglas has lived up to his Twitter bio by being a champion for multiple causes, like the Black Lives Matter movement and LGBTQ rights. He even attended San Francisco Pride in 2019, where he jumped up on the backseat of a car with Kamala and busted out his best dance moves for the crowd (which you can enjoy above).

3 great investment trusts to consider for a Stocks and Shares ISA in 2025

0

When choosing assets for a Stocks and Shares ISA, it’s worth considering investment trusts. These closed-end funds provide exposure to a variety of assets and can add a level of stability to a portfolio. This can be particularly beneficial for beginners who are uncertain about which stocks or sectors to invest in.

However, like any asset, the value can rise and fall. A trust’s past performance gives some insight into its growth potential and volatility but is no indication of future results.

Investment trust Dividend yield Ongoing charges Key sectors 5-Year total return
F&C Investment Trust 1.6% 0.51% Global, diversified 48.4%
City of London Trust 5.2% 0.38% UK equity income -3.5%
Scottish Mortgage 0.5% 0.34% Tech, healthcare 68%

F&C Investment Trust

F&C Investment Trust (LSE: FCIT)  is one of the oldest and most diversified trusts in the UK, with a strong track record of dividend growth. The yield may be low but payments are reliable.

In addition to shares in popular S&P 500 companies like Nvidia, Microsoft, and Apple, it also invests in emerging markets across Latin America, Asia, and Europe.

Often cited as one of the best global investment trusts, its price typically trades at an 8% to 10% discount to the net asset value (NAV). It’s up 21.16% in the past year and 48.42% over five years.

However, its global exposure makes it sensitive to geopolitical events, such as trade tensions, wars, and regulatory changes. These could affect the fund’s performance.

City of London Investment Trust

The City of London Investment Trust (LSE: CTY) is a popular high-dividend investment trust with a 5.2% yield. It has increased its dividend for 58 consecutive years, putting it at the top of the Association of Investment Companies (AIC) ‘Dividend Heroes’ list.

It’s renowned for stable income generation, adopting a defensive portfolio with a focus on blue-chip UK companies. Holdings include leading FTSE 100 companies like HSBC, Relx, Shell, and Unilever

However, this can leave it overly exposed to the domestic economy. If the UK economy struggles, the price is likely to suffer too. This likely contributed to the trust’s weak performance over the past five years, as inflation hurt local markets.

Yet through it all, it’s continued to deliver value via dividends.

Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust

Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust (LSE: SMT) is a high-growth investment trust with a focus on global innovation. In addition to popular tech stocks like Amazon and Meta, it diversifies into some healthcare and retail companies, such as Mercadolibre and Moderna.

It’s grown at an annualised rate of 14.5% per year over the past 20 years. However, due to its propensity for emerging tech, it can be volatile. Between March 2020 and June 2022, the price fluctuated wildly between £5 and £15. This makes it better suited to investors with a higher risk appetite.

Since stabilising around £6.20 in April 2023, it’s increased by 58%. As a growth-focused stock, it has a negligible dividend and low fees of only 0.34%.

Conclusion

A key advantage of including investment trusts in an ISA is to better align it with macroeconomic trends. With a high level of diversification, they can provide stability against interest hikes and inflationary pressures.

While their short-term gains pale in comparison to high-growth stocks, they can be lucrative over the long run. I believe any investor looking to build wealth with an ISA should consider including some investment trusts in their portfolio.

£1k in savings? Here’s how investors can aim to turn that into a £9,600-a-year second income

0

I’m aiming to build a high-and-rising second income from a portfolio of stocks and shares, and I don’t think I need to be an investment genius to do it. Which is pretty handy, because I don’t have the stock-picking skills of billionaire investor Warren Buffett. Hard experience has taught me that.

The truth is most of us don’t. But that’s okay because private investors have one weapon at their disposal. Time.

Over the years and decades, building a diversified spread of FTSE 100 stocks can be a great way to turn relatively small sums into a juicy passive income. And it’s possible to get started with as little as £1,000 (or even less).

Generating a second income through shares isn’t without risks. Stock markets rise and fall all the time but over the years, history shows the returns beat almost every other asset class.

FTSE 100 shares are a great source of income

Even big UK blue-chips can be volatile. A good way to get round this is to invest in a spread of around 15-20 different stocks, prioritising solid, established names with loyal customers and track records of steadily rising dividends.

Cigarette maker British American Tobacco‘s (LSE: BATS) a brilliant example of the type of dividend stock the FTSE 100 excels in that’s worth considering.

Although smoking’s under constant regulatory pressure, British American Tobacco still shifts 500 billion sticks a year. Plus it’s making a big push into what it calls ‘smokeless products’.

Personally, I don’t buy tobacco stocks but it means I miss out on a brilliant source of dividend income. British American Tobacco has a trailing yield of 7.95%. Any share price growth comes on top of that. Last year, the stock grew 25% to give a total return of almost 33%.

There are risks, of course. Cigarettes kill. Vapes will meet growing resistance. It’s a competitive sector. But British American Tobacco has survived these threats, thanks to its range of strong brands.

Over the past 20 years, the FTSE 100’s delivered an average return of 6.9% a year, with all dividends reinvested. Investors could potentially beat that by picking individual stocks. But even if they don’t, UK shares will still build wealth over time.

At 6.9% a year, if an investor put £1,000 into the FTSE 100 at age 30 and left it in the market until they turned 68, they’d have £12,623. If they drew 5% of their pot each year, that would give them £631 of passive income in retirement.

How stocks grow in value over time

That’s not riches, but it isn’t bad from an initial £1k. However, investing isn’t a case of just once-and-done. If they invested £1,000 a year for each of those 38 years, they’d have £192,691 by 68.

Again, this assumes average growth of 6.9% a year. Drawing 5% of that would give them a second annual income of £9,635.

There are no guarantees when investing. The investor could generate a lower return than 6.9% a year. On the other hand, they could get a higher one.

In practice, most of us should aim for more than £192,691 to secure a comfortable retirement so far into the future. That means investing more than £1k a year.

But it’s a start. And it isn’t necessary to be an investment genius to get cracking.

UK seaside town leaves Australian tourist baffled: ‘What is this?’ | Travel News | Travel

0

An Australian woman took to TikTok to share her thoughts on the UK’s beaches – and she didn’t think much of them.

The woman, Celeste, was left unimpressed by UK beaches but Brits were quick to offer alternative suggestions in the comments, reports The Mirror.

Celeste visited Essex and East Sussex coastlines after she journeyed from Down Under to explore the British seaside, only to find her expectations falling short.

She said: “I just arrived in Southend and thought I’d check out a new beach, but something crazy has happened.”

Her confusion continued as she questioned: “People tell me this is a beach, but I’m just wondering who the heck stole all the water. Where are the waves?”

She then showcased the tranquil sea to her followers, asking: “What in the UK is going on here?”

Reflecting on her visit to Brighton the day before which resulted in sunburn, Celeste acknowledged one positive.

“Well I’m thankful that there is sand,” she quipped in acknowledgement to Brighton’s shingle beach.

Taking further issue further with her Brighton experience, Celeste also hit out at the wildlife on the south coast.

“They were so mad that they’ve given me PTSD,” she said of the seagulls. “I bought fish and chips and I was so excited, but a seagull just plucked it straight out of my hands and I looked at my bank account and that fish and chips cost me $30 (£15.10), which to me is just mad.”

The video, which has racked up an impressive 2.3 million views, prompted a flurry of comments from Brits offering advice.

One empathetic viewer suggested: “You chose the two worst beaches,” before recommending Cornwall, Devon, or Holland-On-Sea in Essex as superior alternatives.

Another enthusiast gushed about the northern shores, adding: “Not sure if you’re staying put in the south or travelling, but if it’s beaches you’re after then come up north to the Northumberland coastline for best fish/sea/beach/dunes and views.”

Someone else added: “West Wittering is the UK’s best beach, it’s the only beach I want to go to, when you arrive keep going right past the crowds and you’ll feel like you’re abroad, super soft sand.”

Does ‘Dragon Ball’ DAIMA’ Deserve Its Perfect Reviews?

0

As the mid-’80s approached, a new cornerstone of pop culture arrived in the form of Japan’s Dragon Ball, transpiring into an influential and much-loved phenomenon. The series chronicles the adventures of Goku and his peculiar pals as they embark on a quest to collect seven mystical orbs known as the Dragon Balls. When gathered, the balls process the power to grant wishes, setting the stage for escapades and challenges.

Created by manga master Akira Toriyama, Dragon Ball blew doors wide open, inviting curious novices in the Western world to feel a part of the anime realm, debuting as a manga in 1984 and then transitioning to an anime two years later. The Dragon Ball community still stands as strong as ever to this day, with hundreds of episodes of the show readily available to satisfy fans old and new. Last October, a year after its announcement, Dragon Ball DAIMA hit our screens and has garnered perfect reviews. It begs the question: Does it deserve them?

Akira Toriyama: The Passing of a Visionary

Toei Animation/AFP

Toriyama took his first steps into creating comics with Dr Slump – a story about the robot Arale and her creator in the early 80s. But it wasn’t until Dragon Ball that he found global success. On 1 March 2024, Akira Toriyama sadly died at the age of 68 from acute subdural hematoma – pressure from bleeding in the brain, leaving fans saddened. Following a quiet and humble funeral, the official Dragon Ball website posted: “It’s our deep regret that he still had several works in the middle of creation with great enthusiasm.” Adding, “Also, he would have many more things to achieve.”

Until 1995, Toriyama was the guiding light for Dragon Ball, although he remained involved in the franchise in various capacities until his death. From offering Toei Animation advice sporadically, Toriyama became heavily involved in the creation of Dragon Ball DAIM, getting stuck into the story, characterization and more, which excited those fans who preferred the essence of the early days. With emotions high, reviews were bound to hold nostalgia and possibly be more favorable than they might have been if circumstances were different.

‘Dragon Ball DAIMA’ Seen in a Positive Light

Dragon Ball DAIMA harkens back to the early days of Dragon Ball and draws similarities to Dragon Ball GT. In an attack by Gomah the demon king, Goku and his friends find themselves shrunken in size. To return to form, they head off on an action-packed adventure to the Demon Realm. Goku compensates for his new stature by fighting with the Power Pole, a weapon that hasn’t been seen since the early Dragon Ball arcs.

So far, the show has achieved a perfect score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The beautiful esthetics have pleased reviewers, with Gizmode claiming, “DAIMA succeeds by being in fun-spirited dialog with GT’s logline while sprinkling in exciting new bits of lore the series hasn’t seen since Super, and some damn fine animation is thrown in the mix for good measure.” The show also seems to have hit a sweet spot where longtime devotees can sit down to share the show with their children. It works as a standalone series with lots of comedic moments and battles, albeit less intense than usual.

The Strengths of ‘DAIMA’ Can Also Be Its Weaknesses

Goku and Vegeta in Dragon Ball Daima
Toei Animation

The watered-down elements with Guko coming across as ‘too silly’ appear to cater for a much younger audience and haven’t resonated with many mature viewers, and the lighter approach has left some wishing for a more profound narrative, with the new show conflicting with the lore that was established before. While it’s true that the connection to Toriyama and knowledge of his efforts with Dragon Ball DAIMA could taint people’s opinions, franchises and their continuity are always open to criticism. Knowing there will not be another Toriyama show is a robust reason that many viewers have gratefully accepted what they’ve been offered.

Tim Allen’s Newest Sitcom Receives Debut Rotten Tomatoes Score

0

Tim Allen’s newest show, Shifting Gears, Rotten Tomatoes score is revealed. Debuting on ABC from creators Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully and showrunner Michelle Nader, the story of Shifting Gears follows the relationship between Matt (Allen) and his daughter (played by WandaVision and 2 Broke Girls star Kat Dennings). Matt is a widowed owner of a car restoration shop who lets his daughter, Riley, and his grandchildren move back in despite some complicated history. It airs on Wednesdays at 8 PM ET, with episodes streaming the next day on Hulu.

Shifting Gears has received a Rotten Tomatoes score, revealing that the new series is off to a rough start. The sitcom currently holds a 44% rating based on nine reviews, with five listed as negative and four listed as positive. The score breaks down to 3.30 out of 10 stars, indicating that the negative reviews are particularly sharp. The score will fluctuate as more reviews come in. Shifting Gears season 1 has a mixed record compared to Allen’s well-known TV comedies, coming in ahead of Last Man Standing season 1 (14%) but well behind Home Improvement‘s debut year (64%).

What Do The Reviews Say About Shifting Gears?

It’s A Familiar Allen Premise

With a cast that includes Seann William Scott, Daryl “Chill” Mitchell, Maxwell Simkins, and Barrett Margolis, with Brenda Song and Jenna Elfman in guest roles, the acting in Shifting Gears received solid feedback from critics. Dave Nemetz of TVLine writes: “It’s built surprisingly well, with a lot of the credit going to co-star Kat Dennings, who proves she can go toe-to-toe with Allen and match him jab for jab.” But where the show falters for some is exactly what would make it appeal to others; it’s similar to Allen’s past work.

Shifting Gears: Main Cast & Characters

Actor

Who They Play

Tim Allen

Matt

Kat Dennings

Riley

Seann William Scott

Gabriel

Daryl Daryl “Chill” Mitchell

Barrett Margolis

This is made explicit in Daniel Feinberg’s review for The Hollywood Reporter as he writes “I watched Shifting Gears thinking that it was Last Man Standing without the guts to come right out and just be Last Man Standing.” The review also cites that the acting is capable, even though the premise and effort are lacking. It’s worth noting that critics have only screened two episodes, meaning that the show could evolve with more time. But, for now, for better or worse, it’s exactly what is advertised.

Is Shifting Gears At Least Funny?

The Comedy Also Falters.

Tim Allen as Matt standing next to Matt's daughter, Kat Dennings, who sits on the couch looking defeated in Shifting Gears

More than any similarities to Allen’s previous comedies, a key sticking point is that the first two episodes are not all that funny. The humor is dinged by going for the lowest common denominator and favoring easy laughs. This may reflect that Shifting Gears is still at the point where it’s introducing the characters and establishing their dynamics. But it could also mean that the ABC show doesn’t plan to grow beyond what its audience expects it to be.

10 Most Anticipated New & Returning Network TV Shows Of 2025, From Suits L.A. To Will Trent Season 3

Numerous new shows and season premieres are making their way to network television in 2025, including the highly anticipated Suits spinoff.

In his review for IndieWire, Ben Travers gives Shifting Gears a D+ and writes that it “needs better jokes, better timing, better arcs, better set design (the kitchen looks like a Home Depot display room), and better use of its stars.” The fact that the sitcom doesn’t make better use of its ensemble is a recurring theme, with American Pie actor Sean William Scott highlighted as someone the initial episodes don’t make much use of. His character, Gabriel, looks to be set up for a romance with Riley. Albeit, so far, he is the lovable doofus.

The series, in this early stage, is about how Riley and Matt move forward now that there’s no mom and wife to act as a peacemaker between them.

In a more positive review, Alison Herman writes for Variety and underlined the show’s emotional center by noting in part: “The good news is that there’s a lot more for Shifting Gears to mine in this arena.” The series, in this early stage, is about how Riley and Matt move forward now that there’s no mom and wife to act as a peacemaker between them. The sitcom may actually work better in its more sincere and emotional moments than its humor early on, though it remains something that viewers might potentially want to watch for in the early episodes.

Our Take On Shifting Gears

It May Not Be Bad To Know What You’re Getting

Allen’s latest does not seem to be clicking with critics, although it is only at the beginning. There is also a creative change, with Nader taking over as showrunner after the pilot episode. So it could still be the case that the new sitcom finds its groove after the premiere. Nader became the showrunner after writers and executive producers Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully exited in July 2024, before the show’s premiere. Nader, a veteran television writer and producer, previously worked with Dennings on 2 Broke Girls and the short-lived Hulu series Dollface.

But even if it doesn’t get there, a familiar comedy that is just fine enough and lifted by good performances can go the distance. For many, that’s exactly what Home Improvement and Last Man Standing were. Both would go on to have long runs, eight and nine seasons, respectively. Both are well-liked, if not exactly highly regarded, so there are worse fates for Shifting Gears.

Nick Young seems happy Lakers traded D’Angelo Russell again

0

Nick Young once said of his falling out with former Lakers teammate D’Angelo Russell, “I can’t be mad forever.”

Maybe that’s still true.

But Swaggy P’s grudge against DLo appears to be going strong more than eight years after Russell secretly recorded Young discussing women other than then-fiancée Iggy Azalea in a video that somehow later became public.

Young had a strong apparent response Sunday to Russell being traded from the Lakers to the Brooklyn Nets for the second time in seven years.

“AND STAY OUT,” Young wrote on X. “Dnt bring yo ass back to LA.”

Russell was selected by the Lakers with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2015 draft. As a rookie, he became friends with Young, a veteran player in his ninth NBA season and third with the Lakers.

At one point that season, however, Russell recorded a conversation of theirs without Young’s knowledge. Months later, that video appeared on a celebrity gossip social media feed. Russell said at the time he had no idea how that happened.

“We play around and we joke and we laugh and we say things that you don’t really repeat,” Russell told reporters March 31, 2016. “That was just an incident of just ‘playing too much goes wrong.’ I take the full blame for that, recording the video. But leaking the video wasn’t me.”

Lakers Nick Young and D’Angelo Russell speak with the media before tipoff against Miami.

Young spoke briefly before Russell that day, taking no questions and telling reporters he and Russell would handle the situation in private. In August of that year, Young told the Daily News that his bond with Russell was on the mend.

“We’ll be able to work it out,” Young said. “We’ve already been working it out. It is what it is. I can’t be mad forever.”

Young has addressed the matter in his current role as a regular on the “Gil’s Arena” podcast. Asked in November why he didn’t physically confront Russell at the time, Young said then-Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak and team security prevented him from coming into contact with Russell until the situation had cooled over.

Both players left the Lakers during the 2017 offseason, Young as a free agent and Russell in a trade with the Nets. Young played two more seasons, with the Golden State Warriors and Denver Nuggets. Russell became an All-Star in his second season with the Nets, then played with the Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves before returning to the Lakers in February 2023.

Russell helped the Lakers reach the Western Conference finals that season and set the team record for most made threes in a season with 226 the following year. But he lost his starting role early this season and saw his minutes drop as well, leading to this weekend’s deal that sent Russell, Maxwell Lewis and three future second-round picks to Brooklyn for Dorian Finney-Smith and reserve guard Shake Milton.

Kawhi Leonard leaves Clippers, joins evacuated family in L.A.

Clippers star Kawhi Leonard left the team and flew to Los Angeles to be with family that was evacuated because of the wildfires that have devastated the area, coach Tyronn Lue said Wednesday.

The Clippers played at the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night, losing 126-103.

“You definitely have to take care of home. … Totally had my support 100%,” Lue told reporters before the game. “Going back, checking on his family and kids, making sure they’re well. And he got back, and they’re doing OK, so just happy and thankful for that.”

Tens of thousands have been evacuated because of the Palisades Fire, with more than 11,800 acres having burned in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood in Los Angeles, according to ABC News. More than 1,000 structures are estimated to have been destroyed in the fire.

Leonard, who bought a house in the Pacific Palisades in 2021, was set to play in his third game of the season against Denver. The Clippers star made his season debut against Atlanta on Jan. 4 after missing the start of the season with inflammation in his surgically repaired right knee.

He is averaging 10 points in 20 minutes per game.
